We’ve been keeping an eye on the trees around Hives Park and noticed some of the more recently planted ones were looking a little sad and thirsty. So, we grabbed our buckets and watering cans and headed out to give them some much needed water.

While we were there, we also noticed some rubbish around the park, so we took the opportunity to do a little clean up and help care for the space we enjoy spending time in.

These simple experiences provide meaningful opportunities for children to develop a sense of responsibility, connection to Country and respect for the natural environment. 💚🌳🪾

Bikes, beats and sushi treats! 🍣🚲🎶

What a fabulous way to wrap up Term 3 with our Magpie group! We made delicious sushi for lunch with Misaki, enjoyed some bike riding, and danced the morning away.

We’re looking for a new bike rack (or a few!) at kindy for our bike riders. We’d be so grateful for some new ones so all our bikes can fit by ride to work day on the 14th of October!

Inspired by the book Life in a Hollow by David Gullan and Suzanne Houghton, we’ve been exploring the textures of bark, tree hollows and the animals that might make their homes in the trees at Hives Park.

We’ve been creating collaborative artwork based on our discoveries, which are slowly coming together for our upcoming Kindy Art Exhibition “Self in Country”

We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been creating! 🪾🍃

🌳🐝🌊 Inspired by our new book from Where The Wild Things Are “Save the Gumtrees, Bees and the Big Blue Seas” by Luke John Mathew Arnold, the children explored the story through painting on black paper.

A lovely way to revisit a book and connect it to our current conversations about caring for and protecting Hives Park - thinking about our trees, native animals, bees, plants and the important role we all play in looking after our local environment. 💚🐝🌿

🐾 A little rescue, a big thank you! ❤️
This morning, we found a tiny baby possum at hives park who needed help. We are so grateful to Janet from the RSPCA for coming to our kindy and carefully rescuing the little possum. 🥰

Janet took the baby possum to the RSPCA at Wacol, where it is now in good hands. 🌿🐾

Thank you, Janet, for caring for our little wildlife friend! ❤️

After noticing construction starting behind Hives Park and Kindy, the children have been reflecting on just how special this place is to them. 🌿🐞

Hives Park has become a much-loved space for our children to explore, observe and connect with nature. Through turning their voices into signs for the trees, the children are sharing their knowledge, expressing their care and showing just how much this natural space means to them.

A beautiful example of children using their voices to advocate for and help protect the natural environment around them. 🌱✨
