Digital Legacy refers to all the digital information and assets available about you after your passing. This includes your social media profiles, personal data, passwords, and online access to bank accounts or investments.
Your digital footprint has profound emotional, legal, and financial implications for your survivors. You need to plan ahead to determine who will take over these responsibilities and exactly how they will manage without you. Documenting clear instructions ensures your assets and accounts are handled according to your explicit desires.
Digital platforms and laws evolve constantly. Even if you have attended a lecture on this topic before, missing this updated session means risking your knowledge becoming obsolete.
The cost is $10. Book HERE: https://www.avpals.com/
We look forward to welcoming you from 1:15pm at the Newport Community Centre, 11-13 The Boulevarde, Newport (Hall entrance is opposite the Tennis Courts)

Our Av Pals session on online dating for over‑55s turned out to be lively and engaging and lots of fun. We explored the major dating sites, how to stay safe online and the warning signs of common scams. Several members shared their own experiences - some heart‑warming, some cautionary, all wonderfully honest with a touch of humour.
It was a warm, good‑humoured discussion that proved just how much wisdom (and curiosity) our group brings to the digital world. A very successful session and one we will revisit it again, given the enthusiasm in the room.

Unclutter Your Screen, Upgrade Your Life!
Is your smartphone or iPad full of "ghost apps" that you downloaded but seldom used? Maybe it’s time for a digital spring clean!
Imagine this: an app that sniffs out the cheapest petrol for you, or a handy map that shows you every public toilet when you're out and about.
If you're wondering how to find these digital gems, we’ve done the homework for you. All you need to do is to join us at the Newport Community Centre next Tuesday afternoon for a free, relaxed session on what we believe to be useful apps.
We’ve quizzed our trainers and some students to list their absolute best, most useful apps for everyday life. Learn about the latest, share some tips of your own, and be the master of your device. See you there!
It is free, but by putting your name down https://www.avpals.com/), we can get a rough idea of the catering needs. But you can also bring your friends. We will provide free afternoon tea, and tell you about the upcoming talks and courses that we will run this term.

Managing Your Finances Online - 🎵 Oh the times, they are a changing🎵
..and we simply have to keep up!
Tuesday 30th June, 1:30-3:00pm
Our financial institutions are insisting we have to access their services online these days! That is not an easy ask for most of us who used to walk into a bank and ask for what we want.
That's why we have decided to give this talk! We will walk you through the various online tools that are available on your phone, tablet or laptop.
We will show you the difference between banking on your laptop browser and using a dedicated bank app on your phone or tablet.
Security measures - also known as hoops to go through - may seem like a nuisance to you now, but you will come away knowing how to pass through them, knowing that your accounts are safe.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) section of the MyGov App has become helpful, so we will have a look at where they have added lots of really useful superannuation tools.
Finally we will provide you with clever and simple tips to avoiding financial scams and keeping safe online. If this sounds like something you or even you and a few friends need to know about, then please don't hesitate to book HERE and join us.
We look forward to helping you understand this complex subject so that you can feel confident accessing and managing your money safely.

Interacting with Government Services, My Aged Care
Tuesday 2nd June, 1:30-3:00pm
This is an important notice if you need to consider any sort of Aged Care service!
If you or a loved one are beginning to look into Aged Care services, this is a vital update regarding how you navigate the system. In recent years, the Australian Federal and State Governments have undergone a significant digital transformation.
Today, accessing essential support is almost entirely an online process.
While traditional paper forms were once the norm, the shift toward "digital first" means that we seniors and our families are now required to use online portals to secure the help they need.
This change means that platforms like myGov and Service NSW are no longer optional; they are the primary gateways for interacting with the
Government.
Whether you need to register for the Support at Home program, update your Medicare details, or manage Centrelink payments, these tools are central to your independence.
Our upcoming session is designed specifically to help you feel confident in this digital landscape. We will walk you through how to link your services, including the ATO, My Health Record, and My Aged Care. We’ll also cover practical state-based tasks like renewing your driver’s license or car registration via Service NSW. Join us to ensure you stay connected, informed, and in control of your care journey.
Cost is $10. Book HERE: https://www.avpals.com/
We looking forward to seeing you from 1:15pm at the Newport Community Centre, 11-13 The Boulevarde, Newport (Hall entrance is opposite the Tennis Courts)

AI SCAMS ARE ON THE RISE
Tuesday 28th April, 1:30-3:00pm
Headline News: SCAMMERS ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS! That's good right? Actually, no, it's not. Because the humans are being replaced by AI bots. No need for pay, time to sleep or any human activity. Just ripping real people like you and me off, 24/7 for the benefit of a few.
AI is NOT able to discern good from bad. So the bad people are programming the AI bots to go after us all. Please, don't just take our word for it.
This talk is about the latest (mostly AI driven) scams, the signs to look out for, and how to best protect yourself and your loved ones from getting caught out.
Please come along and bring your friends to this free session to learn how you, personally can make a dent in this ever growing issue.
Ignorance is NOT bliss!
We will provide free afternoon tea, and we will also tell you about the upcoming talks and courses that we will run this term.
Looking forward to seeing you at 1:30pm at the Newport Community Centre, 11-13 The Boulevarde, Newport (Hall entrance is opposite the Tennis Courts)
