The Troutbeck School

The Troutbeck School A small Christian boarding school in Troutbeck, Zimbabwe. Your child will be educated and cared for within a nurturing family like environment.

Very small classes, close supervision, and a calm, structured environment where each pupil is known individually. We are a primary and secondary boarding school situated in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe right above the Troutbeck Inn. Our children learn inside a newly constructed classroom, completely fitted out with Montessori learning materials and equipment. At Troutbeck children sleep in ensuite bedrooms 5 or 6 to a room with younger children accompanied at night by a care giver.

At The Troutbeck School, we prepare children for life — not just examinations. Our pupils learn responsibility, independence, and practical life skills alongside their academic subjects. They cook, clean, manage money, handle disappointment, and treat others with respect. These are not extras. They are part of what we teach. If you are looking for a school that takes your child's full development seriously, please get in touch.

A statement from The Troutbeck School:

The Troutbeck School is aware of a post circulating on social media containing serious and false allegations about the school, its owners, and its staff.

For the record: the individual concerned was introduced to us through a registered employment agent. What began as a cooking position evolved — at her own initiative — into a broader opportunity after she shared her background in sales and the fact that she held a driving licence. On that basis, we invited her to Nyanga for a week, at our expense, to see the school and its operation. She was not placed in a work role. She was here to observe. After approximately 24 hours she chose to leave.

The allegations of a “scam”, the exploitation of deaf workers, and the involvement of students in farm labour are false and defamatory. We reject them entirely.

The school has preserved relevant evidence and reserves the right to report this matter to the police and to pursue it through the courts.

We will not conduct this matter through social media.

On Saturday, The Troutbeck School was invited to support the Bonaqua Troutbeck Triathlon.

A team of our pupils and staff were on the course from early morning until mid-afternoon, helping at two water stations and supporting athletes as they passed through. Some of our students also worked at the finish tent, recording returning athletes and checking timing straps.

A tiring day — but a good one — and we were proud of how steadily our pupils worked throughout.

Thank you to our teachers, to Mrs Makurumedze, and to Lauren Lolo Delius for the extra support.

Part 3. Using your superpower: Hints for keeping your job in the real workplace

Stop worrying about the money. Just try to get a job. Then show you can do it. Then work harder to become indispensable to your organisation. Then make a case for a pay rise. Then keep working hard.

Remember, someone is always watching you and your work output. They are forming an opinion – even if they don’t comment there and then.

Some of you have an advantage that you don’t realise. It is this: you have not been told you are the special one and have had to learn to always read the expressions and body language of those around you, since you were born.

[This is] excellent training for managing your outcome in the real workplace; for sensing the audience, for receiving feedback, and reacting accordingly.

This can help you during the telephone interview too. So, don’t hold back, use your superpower!

Hints for graduates 2. Reacting to the initial follow up ... over WhatsApp, or over the phone, or via email:

Everything you write is part of the assessment.

Don’t answer a question with your own question.

Your goal should be to have conversation with the employer's representative.

It is not a Q and A where they ask a question and you give the answer from your CV. (+ Don’t copy-paste into WhatsApp from your CV.)

Your CV is full of stuff about how good you are at team work and communicating but then you don’t communicate openly and the prospective interviewer gets frustrated.

You can even check in and ask if your answer was comprehensive.

Do not use slang, or contractions, even though you are on WhatsApp. (You are not chatting with your friends).

Don’t be shy. Give answers that show you can think on your feet and which showcase your understanding and communication skills. More is better as it gives fuller picture of who you are. And, crucia…
