Today is one of the nostalgic dates in the Zion Christian Church. Rev. Samuel Mutendi, the founder of Z.C.C., on 12 July 1976, bade farewell to his church followers and told them that his time was up. He said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7). He told them that 3 days after his death, they were to see a great sign in the sky as proof that he had been sent to do God’s work. If they failed to see such a sign, then all the born-again congregants were free to go back to their sinful lives, as he would have lied to them through his teaching of the holy trinity. On 20 July 1976, Rev. Samuel Mutendi passed on and on 23 July 1976, at around 7 pm, a meteor was seen sailing in the sky bearing the image of the late prophet in full combat of his ZCC regalia, which included his hat and badge, as he held his holy rod. The Meteor cruised the sky for about 5 mins and landed at his homestead in Defe Dopota in Gokwe, which was the prophet’s main ZCC shrine, marking his final resting place.
