Extending a Hand of Care 🤝💙

At Hillcrest Schools, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. It is about developing young people who understand the importance of Love, Respect, Community, Perseverance and Resilience — and who are willing to put those values into action.

This year, our Interact Club, together with our EarlyAct Club from Hillcrest Preparatory School, extended a helping hand to the Jairos Jiri Association, supporting an organisation whose work has touched the lives of people with disabilities and disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe for generations.

The legacy of Baba Jairos Jiri reminds us that meaningful change often begins with something simple: seeing a need and choosing to do something about it. From humble beginnings, he dedicated his life to empowering people with disabilities and building a culture of inclusion, dignity and opportunity.

Our pupils had the opportunity to carry that spirit forward — not simply by giving, but by serving, connecting and showing that every member of our community matters.

This is what it means to live our values at Hillcrest Schools. ❤️

🎭 A MAGICAL NIGHT WITH ALADDIN! 🎭

What an incredible journey! Our end-of-term production of Aladdin was a resounding success, and we couldn’t be prouder of our amazing cast and crew. From the very first rehearsal in the Rec Centre to the final bow on stage, every moment was filled with hard work, dedication, and pure talent!

Hello, Hillcrest community!

I'm Lewis Makanya, and I'm delighted to share a little about myself.

I began my teaching career in 2007 at Rydings Primary School, an ATS school in Karoi, before joining Hillcrest Preparatory School in 2015, where I've proudly served ever since. I graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, majoring in Mathematics, but I've had the privilege of teaching ICT throughout my career. Helping learners develop digital skills and embrace technology is something I truly enjoy.

At Hillcrest Prep, I wear several hats. I serve as the Senior Teacher, overseeing student discipline and leading our Prefect Body. I'm also the Examinations Officer, responsible for coordinating school, national and international examinations. In addition, I serve as a Hostel Duty Teacher alongside Mrs Chiremba and as the House Master of Kestrel House, which has proudly dominated athletics and swimming over the past four years.

Sport has always been a passion of mine. I coach rugby, cricket, hockey and athletics, and I also enjoy tennis, football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, chess, golf and darts. I lead our ICT Club, where learners explore coding, robotics and technology, with the goal of developing confident, innovative thinkers who are ready for the future.

Away from school, I'm married to Patience Rwodzi, and together we are blessed with three wonderful children—Reese, Hailey and Lewis Junior. My Christian faith is central to my life, and it guides me to serve others with humility, kindness and integrity.

I'm grateful to the many mentors who have shaped my journey, particularly Mr Mutangadura, Mr Nyakudzuka, Mr Vickery, Mr O. Fernandes and Mr Kwari. Their guidance has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

Above all, I believe every child is unique. My goal is to help each learner discover their strengths, build confidence and reach their full potential. I look forward to continuing to work alongside our parents, learners and staff as we inspire excellence together.

🦁 A Roaring Success at Our Sponsored Walk!🦁

We are still buzzing from our fantastic Sponsored Walk which took place on Saturday, 1st August 2026! The sun was shining, the energy was high, and our school community truly came together to make it a day to remember.

A massive THANK YOU to:
👟 Our amazing students – you walked with so much determination and raised vital funds through your sponsorship forms. We are so proud of you!
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Our wonderful parents – thank you for coming down to walk alongside us and cheer us on. Your support means the world.
🍔 SDC – for the incredible refreshments! The t-shirts look fantastic, and the burgers and juice were the perfect fuel for our walkers.
🧑‍🏫 Our dedicated staff – for managing the children and the programme so brilliantly. We couldn’t do it without you.

But it wasn’t just about the walking! There was so much fun to be had with Zumba, dancing, mascots, and plenty of socialising. The atmosphere was electric!

🌿 Grade 4 Malilangwe Conservacy Camp! 🌿

Our Grade 4 adventurers are back in the classroom this week, but their hearts are still out in the bush! Last week, they had an unforgettable time at Malilangwe, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they embraced every moment.

From thrilling game drives spotting wildlife in their natural habitat, to standing in awe at the breathtaking Chilojo Cliffs – and even stepping into history at Kombako Village – every day was filled with discovery. Evenings were just as special, gathered around the campfire, sharing stories, singing songs, and soaking in the magic of the African night sky.

But camps like these are about so much more than fun (though there was plenty of that!). They build independence, spark curiosity, teach resilience, and strengthen teamwork. Most importantly, they deepen our children’s connection to Zimbabwe’s extraordinary environment and rich cultural heritage – lessons no textbook can fully capture.

A huge thank you to the incredible Malilangwe team for hosting us so warmly, and to our wonderful teachers and parents for making this experience possible.
