History of The School
Methodist church missionaries started a church at Vumbunu before 1907. They later established a school. The school was opened in 1907 by Mr Mafury. The school was named Vumbunu the name of the area of jurisdiction. Vumbunu Primary School is a
council school situated in Mukoyi Area Watsomba under Mutasa Chieftainship. It was constructed in 1907 on a 5 (five) hectare piece of land by local small scale farmers in partnership with the United Methodist Church. However, at the height of the Second Chimurenga in Zimbabwe, it got closed and had all its buildings completely razed to the ground. The parent community
regrouped in 1981 to rebuild the school. Since then it had been re-constructed to
seven classroom blocks, eleven teachers’ houses, some ablution blocks and water
facilities with the water being sourced five (5) kilometers away using gradient forces
to support all WASH systems including school garden, poultry and piggery as well as
maintenance of lawns on the grounds
