Our Grade 5 pupils recently returned from an unforgettable class trip to the Lowveld, filled with adventure, learning, and lasting memories.
The journey began with a visit to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, followed by a drive across the dam wall of Lake Mutirikwi (formerly Lake Kyle). From there, the pupils travelled to Hakamela Educational Camp, where they enjoyed exciting game drives and were fortunate enough to spot a variety of wildlife, including hyena, elephant, giraffe, zebra, and even a leopard!
The educational experience continued as the children learnt to identify animal spoor in the bush and took part in some classroom sessions, studying animal skulls and dentition to discover how teeth reveal an animalโs diet and lifestyle.
One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the confluence of the Chiredzi and Lundi Rivers, where the pupils explored the river ecosystem in search of water beetles, fish, and frogs. They also enjoyed a visit to a crocodile farm, where many bravely held a baby crocodile!
On the journey home, the class stopped to walk across the iconic Birchenough Bridge, bringing a wonderful end to an incredible week.
Throughout the trip, our Grade 5 pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. They returned home with a greater appreciation for Zimbabweโs rich history, remarkable wildlife, and natural environment, along with many special memories that will stay with them for years to come.
