Africa Day Celebration at EXCEL Junior School*
On Friday at EXCEL Junior School, our grounds were filled with colour, laughter, and pride as we commemorated *Africa Day* together!
Our learners and teachers came dressed in vibrant African prints - from bold kente and shweshwe patterns to beautiful Ankara dresses and headwraps. Seeing our children walk tall in their heritage attire reminded us that culture is something to wear with pride and pass on with love.
The day centred around what makes us African: *community, respect for elders, and sharing from one table*. The children gathered around tables set outdoors under the sun, where they explored traditional foods that have nourished our families for generations - roasted sweet potatoes, nyimo, cowpeas, boiled eggs, and other wholesome foods from our land. More than a meal, it was a lesson in gratitude, identity, and the value of knowing where we come from.
Through photos, laughter, and shared moments, our little ones learned that being African means:
- *Ubuntu* - “I am because we are” - looking out for one another
- *Respect* for our elders and traditions
- *Pride* in our languages, dress, and foods
- *Unity* in diversity, as one African family
To our teachers and caregivers, thank you for making this day meaningful and memorable. To our learners, you are the future of Africa - bold, bright, and deeply rooted.
