THE DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL EXPERIENCE IN MONTESSORI
Because of the focus on individual work, many people wonder if the Montessori approach will provide their child with enough social experience. The answer is yes: social development is an important part of Montessori.
Children experience social interaction in many ways, through:
▪️Circle time, where the group expresses themselves and dialogues all sitting in a circle.
▪️Mentoring and mutual learning of children of different ages: everyone learns from everyone.
▪️Learning grace and courtesy skills, learning how to behave appropriately in a social group.
▪️Learning to manage conflicts independently, as adults do not intervene if it is not strictly necessary, and as little as possible.
▪️Having opportunities to volunteer and cooperate or help others.
▪️Working, if you wish, in groups or teams: individual work can be done in company and with the support of other children.
The Montessori approach fosters character development, peace and cooperation.
