Worker participation refers it the involvement of workers in decision making. This can be achieved through various schemes that management may adopt. Worker participation contributes to the well being of any business organisation by enhancing improved morale, improving the quality of decisions and fostering good industrial relations, among other benefits.

Firstly, worker participation plays a pivotal role in raising the morale among workers. The inclusion of workers in decision making motivates workers due to the recognition given to them by top management. This recognition, as supported by Maslow in his hierarchy of needs, goes a long way in satisfying workers' self esteem needs. With higher morale, higher productivity is attained, much to the benefit of the organisation. This clearly shows the benefits of worker participation to the organisation

Also, worker participation helps improve the quality of decisions in any organisation. This comes about as workers closer to the scene of action are consulted, and their ideas incorporated into the overall decision making process. For instance, by consulting lower level production operatives in an organisation, the top management can make more informed budgets and other strategic decisions based on the information gathered from the operatives. This again shows the importance of worker participation to an organisation.

Furthermore, worker participation fosters good industrial relations. With continuous engagement between management and workforce through the various worker participation schemes, the relations between management and workforce are enhanced. For instance, worker participation through meetings can help iron misunderstandings between management and workforce. This goes a long way in resolving disputes between the two groups of people and enhance good industrial relations. This gain shows the importance of worker participation in an organisation.
