John's Preparatory School is an independent, preparatory day school for boys aged 5 to 12 in Borrowdale, Harare, Zimbabwe. The school is owned and governed by the St. John's Educational Trust. St Johnโ€™s Preparatory School was founded in 1956 by Peter and Barbara Hickman at their Borrowdale property. It began as a small family school with 13 pupils. It was their desire to establish a school for boys which offered "a sound system of education in an atmosphere conducive to the growth and development of each personality".[4] The school grew to 120 boys with a class in each grade from 1 to 7. Pressure on places was such, that in the early eighties the school doubled in numbers, and then trebled with three classes in each year group and a total of 525 boys.

Congratulations to Takudzwa Tigere (Gr 7), who represented Zimbabwe in the development team at the Africa Genesis Archery Tournament in Botswana from 12th - 15th August ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿน

Taku who was the only junior school boy and youngest in tour managed some new personal bests in both bullseye and 2D. The Zimbabwe national team performed exceptionally well, bringing home three gold while the development team was placed 4th in their category.

The dedication, sportsmanship and teamwork were a real reflection of SJP. Well done Taku - we are incredibly proud of you ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘โœจ

๐Ÿ‘ SJP 1st XI Hockey Tour 2026 ๐Ÿ’š

Our SJP 1st XI enjoyed a challenging and rewarding hockey tour, taking on strong opposition before finishing the week at the Clifton U13A Boysโ€™ Hockey Festival.

The tour gave the boys valuable opportunities to test themselves, develop their skills and grow in confidence as a team ๐Ÿ’ช

A special highlight was meeting Ann Grant, captain of Zimbabweโ€™s historic 1980 Olympic gold-medal-winning womenโ€™s hockey team, who shared inspiring words about resilience, adaptability and hard work.

Beyond the hockey, the tour was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to strengthen their friendships, build team spirit and grow together in a different environment.

We are incredibly proud of the way our boys represented St Johnโ€™s Prep and look forward to seeing them build on this experience ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘

Proudly representing Zimbabwe ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ’š

We are incredibly proud of our St Johnโ€™s Prep boys, Dominic Bowl and Levi Rickards, who represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Aquatics XXII Zone IV Championships in Gaborone, Botswana, from 2nd to 5th September ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ผ

Dominic competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, recording impressive personal best times in all three events ๐Ÿ‘

Levi took on the 50m and 100m backstroke, as well as the 100m freestyle, achieving fantastic personal best times across his events ๐Ÿ‘

What an achievement for both boys! We are so proud to see them representing our school and our country on the regional stage โœจ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ
