Mat 4:3-4 KJV 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
One of the central missions of Christ on earth was to set an example of how we have to live as sons of God. When the enemy presented something that was to prove Christ's sonship he silenced that voice by speaking the Word of God.. "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God"...... to Christ, living by the word was not a mere confession of memorised verses but application of the right word at the right time on a specific situation.... he proved that man lives by the word of God when he managed to put that word into practice, there was no compromise, he was not tempted to taste what the old serpent was presenting to Him the same way Eve was tempted in Eden... He stood by the Word of His Father...... the enemy came at a time that even if Jesus had turned stones into bread people were going to justify him because he was hungry (it was after 40 days and nights of fasting) but he choose to live by the word of God. The Bible clearly states that satan came as a tempter, he knows when to come, he appeals to the things that we desperately need and at that time people compromise just like Eve in Eden and Esau to Jacob when he chose to satisfy his belly at the expense of his birthright .... apparently, Jesus proved His sonship by 1. Refusing to obey the voice of the devil and taking the Word of God that he knew was the source of his life........... 2. Taking the right word that pacified the subtility of satan ( it is important as sons of God to rightly divide the word of truth, knowing the right word to apply in every situation)
Jesus proved his sonship by;
1. Abiding by the word of his Father
2. Overcoming the tactics of the Prince of this world ( 1Jn 5:4 KJV For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.)
1Jn 2:14 KJV I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
We can only overcome the wicked one if and only if we know how to make the word of God abide in us
In short, our sonship unto God can only be proven by how much we are willing to number 1. Live by the Word.......... number 2. Obey the word of God and putting that word into practice
