First week of Advent
Candle Purple
The first candle, which is purple, symbolizes hope. It is sometimes called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.
Prayer
" Lord Jesus Christ,this week, we begin the journey of Advent. This is a season of expectation and anticipation, a time of preparation and confession. And so it is that we bring to you a broken and contrite spirit which we know our God will honor. We take this time to prepare for your coming and remain as a flame of Hope lit by your Spirit, we pray in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit....Amen"
