As part of their practical assignment on industrial relations ,Zils students for Mineral and Mining law visited the National Employment Council (NEC) for Mining Industry offices in Harare, on a study tour to inquire more on the significance of National Employment Council to the mining sector, Requirements for National Employment Council Registration and Registration Process Flow.
The National Employment Council for the Mining Industry is an employment council established under Part VIII of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01]. The Labour Act provides for employment councils to be formed by representatives of employers/employers' organisations and registered trade unions.
The National Employment Council is a critical stakeholder in Mining Law studies because it helps students understand the employment and labour relations side of the mining industry. It provides practical knowledge of collective bargaining, wages, working conditions, employee representation and dispute resolution. Most importantly, it helps students appreciate that lawfully operating a mine involves both compliance with mining legislation and compliance with employment law.
