The Embassy of Sweden hosted its final National Day celebration in Zimbabwe, marking the end of a long and significant diplomatic presence in the country. The event was attended by Mr. V.A. Chikanda, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID), alongside government officials, diplomats, development partners and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Per Lindgärde noted that the closure of the embassy does not signal the end of relations between Zimbabwe and Sweden. Rather, it marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation, with Sweden remaining committed to supporting development initiatives and maintaining strong bilateral ties.

For many years, Sweden has been a trusted friend and development partner of Zimbabwe, contributing to the country's growth and development through various programmes. While the embassy's closure brings an era to a close, the partnership between the two nations is set to continue through new avenues of engagement.

Mr. V.A. Chikanda, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID), paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr Giuseppe Giacalone, the new Ambassador of Italy to Zimbabwe. The purpose of the meeting was to welcome the Ambassador to Zimbabwe. During the meeting, they exchanged views on diplomacy, international cooperation and Zimbabwe's election to the United Nations Security Council. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to explore future areas of collaboration and partnership.

A Celebration of Diplomacy, Culture and Friendship: ZID at Italy's 80th Republic Day Reception

The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID) was honoured to attend the "Diplomatic Reception of the Year" hosted by H.E. Mr Giuseppe Giacalone, Ambassador of Italy to Zimbabwe, and Mrs Gabriela Loreiro, in celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic.

The occasion provided a remarkable cultural showcase, featuring three Ferrari cars on display and a beauty pageant highlighting traditional Italian fashion. It was truly an exquisite opportunity to celebrate Italian National Day and the enduring spirit of diplomacy.

As if that were not enough, guests were treated to an impressive array of tables laden with authentic Italian cuisine, offering something to delight every palate. What a memorable celebration of all things Italian!

ZID joins the international community in congratulating the Italian Republic on this significant milestone and wishes the people of Italy continued peace, prosperity and success.
