As the year draws to an end, what do you wish you had done differently in 2024? What are you most proud of? And what are you preparing to do in 2025?

As promised, today I fulfil.
Perhaps, this should just go to every job seeking individual and not only to the recent graduates. My promise specifically was to share how I personally, finally landed the international job I'm currently on, after over a year of applying and seeking...
NB. This is unique to my experience, according to the feedback I got from my boss over a savory lunch!
He started the conversation with a quote, followed by the 3 main things he also learned to look for in a potential employee:
"We hire ATTITUDE and Train Competency." Indeed, your attitude towards life and tasks determines your progress and advancement. In a world where we now compete with and have computers, machines (AI, drone technology and robots), our humane faculties ought to be more pronounced. The heart/soul remains invaluable over the chip!
1. Autonomy - More than just stating on your CV that "you can work independently," employers are interested in knowing what exactly have you initiated. As an individual, what initiatives have you done. e.g. Showcase your independent thinking, ownership of an idea or commitment to a certain cause. There are ways and examples to showcase this track record...
2. Mastery – Employers have an eye for people with skills. More than your work experience or former responsibilities and roles, what set of unique skills are you bringing to the organization. (Mind you, skills are not gifts or talents and that’s a discussion for another day too).
3. Purpose – Being ambitious, being driven, and all other good qualities are never enough if you lack “a sense of service unto others.” Beyond you, what good and what contribution are you making in other people’s lives. This also needs to be explicit in your CV and interview because it brings out the attractive humane side, thus, outcompetes every machine, computer or AI that may be as good at your job.
For more specific guidance or tips on employability, do not hesitate to inbox via our organization, Greater Leadership Network. We offer career guidance for primary, secondary and tertiary students. Through coaching and mentorship, we also guide those going through mid-life career crises.
My wife Deeny Matiza captured her unique and intriguing experience of job hunting. She has a more creative, captivating and crafty way of weaving her stories unlike my formal/kjv way of chronicling. Check out her version of the same issue on https://www.linkedin.com/in/daphne-matiza/ and be the judge!
Cheers folks

Nothing is as energizing as spending the entire weekend with an adept group of scholarly finesse! St Ignatius College entrusted us with their Prefect Leaders for training and equipping.
We invested all, that the limited time could afford us.
Team Building activities that cultivated trust building, critical thinking and problem solving skills
Leadership Excellence encapsuled in sessions of financial literacy, global perspectives, career exploration, grooming and etiquette etc.
The group was very vibrant and enthusiastic.
So far, our interactions with St Ignatius College students has always left us with a high perception of the School and its relevant authorities. This is because of the discipline and enthusiasm to learn the students always exude.
Our heartfelt appreciation to our committed facilitators. They are passionately sold out to the cause of raising leaders, mentoring and coaching young people.

Our session with the STAR Leadership Academy 2024 Cohort yesterday on "The Africa We Want" ignited the Pan Africanism in them. We marveled at the thought provoking questions that were probed, exuding the critical thinking approach and solution oriented overtures they extravasated. Higherlife Foundation is surely doing the Lord's work in equipping young people for impact, globally!
We are privileged to only partner and be part of ensuring that "The Rising Giant" of Africa surely rises. Greater Leadership Network continues to harness the leadership potential in young people through coaching, mentorship and trainings. Our efforts seek to see their brilliance shaping the national and continental policy frameworks!

Last Saturday, we had Part1 on Unpacking the Agenda 2063. Thank you Higherlife Foundation for entrusting me with your international audience tuning in from Botswana, Rwanda, Eswatini, Burundi, Lesotho, Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe. About 3 150 participants were engaged and conscientized on "The Africa We Want"
I invite all well meaning African citizens to tune in again tomorrow. Details are attached in the flyer below. Let's ensure the Vision comes to pass for our own benefit and our children's children!
