Yes!! We love this!! Private schools in Zimbabwe use Happy Readers as do the rural schools that are supported by donors. Our program is equal to any other, but the schools we work in are vastly different in terms of resources and class numbers. But Happy Readers program still works just as well, which is what is was designed to do!!

True social change begins the moment we provide every child with
the same education, regardless of their circumstances.

This is so sad. $250 average a month will lead to desperate people doing desperate things. We need to pay our teachers properly to help prevent the temptations in front of them.

Communities warn Zimbabwe’s schools are now crime scenes. Corruption in admissions, examinations, staff recruitment, procurement, and extra lessons is locking learners out and deepening inequality with parents forced to pay bribes, buses bought for millions but classrooms lacking labs, and essential resources mismanaged.

Yes!! Basics first. We believe at Happy Readers that children should start with the basic skills and not go straight to screens.

Sweden is scaling back digital learning in classrooms and refocusing on traditional education methods.
Education authorities say excessive screen time may be harming reading comprehension, focus, and writing skills.
The shift prioritizes printed books, handwriting, and structured learning, especially for younger students.
Officials stress that technology will still be used, but not as a replacement for core learning foundations.

It is indeed disheartening to see this. But when you pay teachers and heads under $300 a month, the struggle is real. Working with many heads and teachers as well as visiting schools, we see there is a desperate need for realistic wages. Our program may give them the resources to teach reading and comprehension to children, but as people in a community trying to afford to live, our educators are facing a tough challenge.

This is exactly why we do what we do!! Education begins with literacy, and children do not learn to read by osmosis! They need to be taught!
