Greetings environment keepers hopefully l found you well.In response to this overwhelming infamous virus we as Pekben Environment have thought it incumbent upon ourselves to exhort you to avoid gatherings, keep a social distance prescribed by your national and international health counsellors make it a virtue to always wash your hands let's exercise the most stringent clinical measures to avoid the spread of the virus.

Water is the primary medium through which we will feel the effects of climate change. Water availability is becoming less predictable in many places, and increased incidences of flooding threaten to destroy water points and sanitation facilities and contaminate water sources.

In some regions, droughts are exacerbating water scarcity and thereby negatively impacting peopleโ€™s health and productivity. Ensuring that everyone has access to sustainable water and sanitation services is a critical climate change mitigation strategy for the years ahead.

Climate scientists have been saying all along that one of the primary effects of climate change is the disruption of the water cycle. Since so much of everyday life and planning is determined by hydrological systems, it is important to understand the impact that climate change is having (and will have) on drinking water supplies, sanitation, food and energy production.

The relationship between water, energy, agriculture and climate is as important as it is complex. Climate change has the potential to tip out of balance the relatively stable climate in which civilization has been built and jeopardize the security of water, food and energy systems. Over time, the effects of global warming due to the human-generated buildup of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere have become more evident. In 2017, major GHGs, like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide hit record levels.

Some general policy options for adaptation of water resources for climate change and/or variability include:

โ€ข Adoption of contingency planning for droughts;
โ€ข Making marginal changes in the construction of new infrastructure;
โ€ข Using inter-basin transfers;
โ€ข Maintaining options to develop new dam sites;
โ€ข Conserving water;
โ€ข Allocating water supplies using market-based mechanisms; and
โ€ข Controlling pollution.

The geographical location of Zimbabwe in the tropics makes it vulnerable to climate change through shifting rainfall and agricultural patterns,rising temperatures and frequent heat waves, drought and floods will destabilise agricultural production ,exacerbating the situation is our heavy dependence on rain-fed agriculture, this will have adverse effects not only on humans, but also on livestock, which are a strategic investment to rural and farming communities; And also maize planted late will not give good yields,thus making maize production a less valiable activity under climate change conditions.The stimulated changes in crop yields are driven by two factors that is carbon dioxide enrichment and changes in climate.In the low-lying areas of Southern Zimbabwe for example it is probable that climate change will turn the region into a non-maize producing area as exemplified by reduced maize production in Masvingo.If global warning becomes a reality,this area which represents 42% of the communal area will become even more marginal for maize production.

๐—”๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ: is the backbone of Zimbabweโ€™s economy as Zimbabweans remain largely a rural people who derive their livelihood from agriculture and other related rural economic activities. Agricultural activities provide employment and income for 60-70 percent of the population, supplies 60 percent of the raw materials required by the industrial sector and contributes 40 percent of total export earnings.

๐—”๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ : contributes approximately 17 percent to Zimbabweโ€™s GDP. As the main source of livelihood for the majority of the population, the performance of agriculture is a key determinant of rural livelihood resilience and poverty levels. General challenges facing smallholder farmers (SHFโ€™s) include low and erratic rainfall, low and declining soil fertility, low investment, shortages of farm power - labour and draft animals, poor physical and institutional infrastructure, poverty and recurring food insecurity.

๐—”๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ: production is also vulnerable to periodic droughts. The peasant sector, which produces 70 per cent of staple foods (maize, millets, and groundnuts), is particularly vulnerable as it has access to less than 5 per cent of national irrigation facilities.
