According to the UNESCO Institute of Statistics, 94% (24 million) of higher education-bound youth and adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa and 70% of the population live in rural areas. Many African rural students do not have access to high-quality education, access to scholarships for higher education and talent development programs, and are neglected. The poor learning conditions in African rural communities will worsen the education and learning gaps between rural and urban African scholars. The digital gap between rural and urban communities further affects the education and empowerment of rural students since they cannot access internet services for learning and attend free Massive Open Online Courses offered by institutions such as edX. Poor education in rural areas will continue to contribute to long-term poverty in the region. Solution
Edu-Kistaps provides free mentorship, leadership training, talent development programs, and scholarship application assistance to rural students through its volunteer workers. Edu-kistaps connects students with relevant local partner organizations to help them identify and nurture their unique talents, educate them to manage their abilities as businesses, and pull themselves and their families out of poverty. We match with one-on-one mentors who help them achieve their dreams by building meaningful connections and guiding them through their career paths. We offer information through cost-efficient, accessible, and commonly-used platforms and modes of communication. Long-term Impact
Edu-Kistaps aims to develop young people passionate about finding solutions to rural communities' problems, such as poverty. We believe that having ethical entrepreneurial leaders from rural communities willing to give back to their community is the most potent weapon to develop rural communities. "One of the greatest assets of us as humans is talent" (Buckingham). Developing the talents of students will accelerate the long-term development and sustainability of rural communities. By empowering the present young generation, we will break the generational poverty chain in rural families.
