🌾 Shona Word of the Day: Sadza 🌾

Sadza, sometimes called Pap in English, is a thick porridge made from maize meal. It’s the heart of Zimbabwean meals and our proud staple food. 🍲 Made from ground maize (cornmeal) cooked with water, it becomes smooth and filling—similar to polenta or ugali in other parts of Africa. In Shona, Rice is called Mupunga.

Sadza and mupunga are both favourites in Zimbabwe and in the diaspora! Now tell us:

Which one do your little ones enjoy more?
A. Sadza (Pap)🍲
B. Mupunga (Rice) 🍚

Happy Heroes Day, Zimbabwe

Today, we honour the men and women whose courage and sacrifice paved the way for our independence.

💡What you and your children can learn when you visit the National Heroes Acre:

- The inspiring stories behind Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle
- The role of unity, courage, and hunhu/ubuntu in building our nation
- The museum’s rich collection of artefacts from the independence movement
- Why preserving history is key to protecting our identity for future generations

Visiting is a chance to connect with our history and pass it on to the next generation.

🧒🏾👧🏽 “Hello July!” or should we say… Tikugashirei, Chikunguru! 🌿

How is your little one preparing for Chikunguru? Let’s teach our little ones how to start each month with purpose and joy. Teach them that the start of the month is a perfect time to:

📚 Set small goals (like learning 3 new Shona words)
📆 Plan your week with fun & learning
❤️ Reflect on what made last month special
🧼 Clean your space, your mind, and your heart

We believe that when children learn to plan, they also learn to value their time. 🌻 A good plan brings peace. A rushed heart brings confusion.
Let’s raise children who are thoughtful, prepared, and joyful about every new beginning.

In case you missed the announcement on Instagram… BIG NEWS! 📣

We’ve been quiet for a little while — but only because something beautiful has been blooming behind the scenes. 🌱

🥁 And now it’s official…
Nhaka Yedu, Beginners Shona is now SENI SEWE! 💃🏾🕺🏾

Because what we’re building is more than just language lessons.
It’s identity.
It’s culture.
It’s heritage — passed on to the next generation with love.

Seni sewe means “like me, like you.”
It’s about our children seeing themselves in what they learn, loving their skin, knowing their roots, and growing up respectful and proud.

✨ Welcome to Senisewe.
Where language, culture, and identity come alive for our little ones.
