The dialectical tension between democratic politics and ecclesiastical authority stems from the inherent contradictions between the sovereign will of the people and the divine mandate of the church. Democracy, as a system predicated on the autonomy of human reason and the whims of public opinion, often finds itself at odds with the transcendent values and moral absolutes espoused by the church. The democratic ethos, which valorizes opposition and dissent, appears antithetical to the church's pursuit of unity and truth. Thus, the church must navigate this existential conundrum by reconciling its spiritual imperatives with the temporal realities of democratic governance. In doing so, it may yet discover a novel political paradigm that harmonizes the divine and the human, the sacred and the profane: By Dr SERENGWA A.
