Farewell Gogo Khohlisa
The story of Logahs will be incomplete without mention of this larger than life character who touched many souls young and old alike. From the Late 70s Gogo Khohlisa as she was affectionately known, had a lasting impact due to her missionary spirit.
Training the young
In the 1980s she was highly active with the JMVs she later played an active role in the powerful logass pathfinder club together with Mrs P. MOYO (CD). She is fondly remembered for the powerful Sabbath school programmes she brewed together with the late Mrs Siziba.
Gogo Khohlisa was very instrumental in training public speakers. Her powerful induction and investiture programmes were quite inspiring. The young were taught to be audible and the use of appropriate language and diction. She used to take the young speakers to the gum plantation area for rehearsals in order to train them to speak without the use of a PA system.
Gogo Khohlisa had a vision, she understood the value of Early Childhood Education (ECD) long before the curriculum implementors in government realised its worth. She used to run a very vibrant kindergarten centre with the likes of Makhuphe. She deserves a place in the roll of fame among esteemed educationists. One wonders how she managed to run the ECD centre since she was a full time grade 1 teacher.
Church planting
From.the early 80s together with the late pastor B.E. Jele Gogo NaPeace embarked on a vibrant church planting project.
With Fink they build and commissioned the Majaha Church in Vunku Shimmer.
From time to time she would take students to visit neighboring churches such as Ngqamu, Mkhombo and Gwenjani on an outreach programme.
In the late 80s using her personal resources and energy she championed the building of a new church near Zono farm. Gogo Khohlisa however refused that the church be given such a paradoxical name hence it was later changed to Lukhanyiso. In 1988, Lukhanyiso was organised into a full blown church.
In the 90s Gogo Khohlisa moved to establish another church at Chekabana. This time she had bought donkeys and a scotchcart which she used to carry sand and bricks for the building of the church. It was common to see her literally running out of the Mission infront of the donkeys as she went to carry the supplies needed for building. On Sabbath she would use the same cart to transport the old grannies to attend church services at Chekabana.
Through her toil and sweat the church at Chekabana was finally completed around 2012.
Gogo Khohlisa was not finished yet. Now retired from her work as a teacher, she turned her efforts to establish another branch by the booster area near the legendary farm 34. She worked tirelessly to establish the church before turning to Mabandla farm area across Vunku river where she established another church. With age and ill health taking a toll, gogo Khohlisa finally retired from active service and she spent the past 4 or 5years leading a quiet life with the active support of elder Khohlisa who stood besides her like a sentinel.
Gogo Khohlisa will be fondly remembered for her wonderful gift of Match making. She assisted many sworn bachelors to find soul mates and in all the cases she organised and sponsored lavish weddings using her personal resources.
On the 8th May 2026 Gogo Khohlisa peacefully rested in the Lord and will be sadly missed. Indeed Logahs will never be the same without the presence of this Pastor's kid.
