I get asked often if we offer ISR.
We Do NOT believe in this method of teaching
ISR is a very specific method that focuses heavily on teaching a child to roll to their back and float, often through repeated submersion and repeated survival-response practice.
We at School of swimming believe children need more than a conditioned response.
True water safety means a child can learn how to:
• move from vertical to horizontal
• control their breath
• get to the wall
• travel along the wall
• climb out
• build comfort, trust, and real swimming skills
Gain the love and respect of the water
A child who is scared, panicked, or shut down is not safer. They are surviving the lesson. This can cause ptsd and will be left with traumatic memories in the sub conscious mind
Our approach is different.
We teach swimming through bonding connection, body control, repetition without fear, muscle memory and skill-building that respects the child’s nervous system in their time. Remembering each child is unique and different as is our finger print
We work with children who are fearful, anxious, neurodivergent, autistic, sensory-sensitive, or have had hard experiences in the water before.
Many families come to us after lessons that made swimming feel harder, not safer.
We go back to basics and slowly build their respect and confidence as well as their love fir the water.
We believe children can learn to swim without being broken down first.
We want them to look forward to their lessons to skip in and ask their parents when is it swimming lessons.
Water safety should build confidence, not trauma.
We are here for both the swimmers abd the parents

Hi Siobhan
I’m doing great!
I’m currently in the USA, studying Biomedical Engineering in Florida. It’s my final year and I couldn’t be happier😂.
I still remember my swimming lessons with you and you didn’t just teach me how to swim, you taught me a very important life lesson about being a sore loser. It didn’t make sense to me back then but it slowly kicked in as I grew up. I’m so grateful for everything you taught me.
How have you been and are you still coaching?

💦 WHY AQUAFITNESS? 💦
Did you know that Aquafitness is one of the safest and most effective ways to stay active as we age?
🌊 The water supports your body, reducing stress on joints while allowing you to strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular fitness.
💙 For those with osteoporosis, Aquafitness can help improve muscle strength, balance, and coordination, which may reduce the risk of falls.
💙 For people struggling with sciatica or back discomfort, the buoyancy of the water can help relieve pressure on the spine and allow for comfortable movement.
💙 It improves flexibility, endurance, mobility, and overall fitness—all while being gentle on the body.
And the best part? It's not just exercise—it's laughter, friendship, encouragement, and fun in a warm, welcoming environment.
Come join our Water Warriors and discover how moving in water can help you feel stronger, fitter, and more confident every day! 💪🏊♀️✨

Learning to swim at School of Swimming (SOS) completely changed my relationship with the water. Through Coach Siobhan’s dedication, patience, and hard work, I not only learned the fundamentals of swimming but also developed a genuine love for the sport. Even after taking time away, the strong foundation she built alongside Coach Craig and Coach Megan stayed with me. Now that I’m back in the pool, I’m grateful for the confidence, technique, and encouragement they gave me from the very beginning.

Please don’t stop swimming lessons too soon!
Even in Winter
I know lessons can feel like a big commitment — time, money, and sometimes a few tears — but please don’t let your children stop until they can confidently swim 25 metres unaided.
A good benchmark is being able to swim 25 metres on all four strokes — freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly — and being able to tread water for at least 30 seconds.
It might seem like a big investment right now, but it’s such a small one compared to the lifetime of safety and confidence it gives them.
It’s the only sport that’s truly a life skill —
one that could save their life one day.
So please, stick with it. Even if it’s tough or the kids aren’t loving it at the moment…
It’s worth every single lesson.
