2020 E-LEARNING MEMO 2



Dear Parents/Guardians



The e-learning program is set to commence soon and, in this report, we shall explain further on key issues to be noted in this process. We would like to thank all parents and learners who have been patient in anticipation of the program and together we will ensure a successful implementation of the e-learning program.



On the 4th of May 2020 we reported that soon learners will be able to learn from home and in this regard, we shall explain the step by step guide on how to enjoy the benefits of the e-learning program.



THE PROCESS





Furthermore, may we inform all our stakeholders what has been done and what is required of you at this stage. During the past 2 weeks we have been setting up the online classes in the following formats:



1-Full name of student



2-Class



3-Number of subjects each student is doing (to ensure each student is enrolled in the correct class)



4-Class teacher (to enable the teacher to interact with his/her online class)



5-Administrators (Principal, Head of department, Deputy and General School Administration).



6-Parent/Guardian (to enable parents' access to their child's performance information in terms of grades.)



We have successfully managed to finish up the process of setting up the online classes and the following are the guidelines:



1-In the coming week we shall send via email, text and WhatsApp each students Gatelearn email (for example [email protected]) and their Gatelearn password. However due to the number of accounts being created information will be sent over the space of one week from Sunday 17th of May to the 22nd of May 2020.

2-Learners will use the same login information to login to Gatelearn and Microsoft virtual classes.



3-Once they login they will be directed to their classes.



4-Each week learners will be expected to complete exercises, tests and this will continue even after the lock down period is over until their end of year examinations or final year. How they perform in these online tests will enable their teachers and school administrators to build up custom material for each class and ultimately each student.

4.1 - Peradventure if the exams for Zimsec are not written the Examination Board can use its discretion to use the Coursework marks for the purposes of final grading should the situation demand.

5- We have set up a dedicated support line to assist with technical problems.

SCHOOL FEES

We would like to thank the parents and guardians who have been giving the school practical support by paying the Second Term school fees as our fixed costs remain constant despite the lockdown.





EXAMINATIONS

PLEASE NOTE ALL THE EXAMINATION CANDIDATES WHO HAVE NOT FINISHED TOPPING UP FOR NOVEMBER AND JUNE EXAMINATIONS SHOULD TO DO SO URGENTLY.



E-LEARNING TABLETS

Those who paid their e-learning fees will receive their tablets at the end of the lockdown.

A LETTER FROM THE SCHOOL DIRECTOR

Dear Parents and Guardians.

Greetings.

Due to the current lockdown, it is clear that the situation demands that we adopt some innovative strategies in order to ensure continuity of learning. It is also clear that should the schools eventually open a new style in school management needs to be adopted.

The purpose of this letter is to address these two important fundamental issues. In the 2020 academic year, whatever happens politically, our priority is to ensure that the future of all our leaners from form one to 6, is supported by a well-structured e-learning program.

This learning program will be achieved through our Learning Management System www.gatelearn.net and via Microsoft Virtual Learning Platform. Learners will access learning resources within the learning management system and attend online classes via virtual microsoft learning classrooms.In readiness of this eventuality, details on how to access learning resources and attend classes will be sent via e-mail soon.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to adopt this new style of learning. The school will give students the e-learning timetable on the 5th of May 2020. Such a style of learning is done by many countries overseas. We must not lag behind on this technological innovation.

Furthermore, we have prepared for a proper e-learning program in collaboration with an Australian company who specializes in software development with a good number of courses supported by a highly interactive platform. We are quite aware of the obstacles and teething problems that can bedevil such a program and the resources are always limited. Furthermore should the government announce the partial or complete opening of schools, We shall inform you in good time.The school requires that in order to facilitate a conducive learning environment parents are required to ensure that their learners stick to their learning timetables at home.We shall be sending you more information in due course.
