From CBC to the National Stage

We are proud to congratulate Mr Tatenda Kanyangarara, CBC First Team Hockey Coach, on his selection as coach of the Zimbabwe U18A Hockey team.

It is a fitting recognition of his knowledge, dedication and commitment to developing young hockey players, both at CBC and beyond.

As the Zimbabwe U18 teams continue their campaign through to Sunday, we wish Tatenda, the players and the entire technical team every success for the remainder of the tournament.

Today, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Onesimus Ngwenya.

There are some young men whose presence leaves a lasting mark on a community. Onesimus was one of them.

He will be remembered not only for the courage he showed throughout his journey, but for the kindness, warmth and gentle spirit that made him so deeply loved by those who knew him. The affection held for Onesimus across the CBC community is a testament to the remarkable young man he was.

Throughout his journey, our College family stood alongside Onesimus and the Ngwenya family with love, hope and prayer. Today, we continue to hold them close in our hearts as we mourn his passing.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May they find comfort in the love that surrounds them, strength in the memories they will forever treasure, and peace in the knowledge that Onesimus touched the lives of so many.

As a community of faith, we entrust Onesimus to God's loving care and pray that he may rest in eternal peace.

Please keep the Ngwenya family in your prayers.

Beyond the Classroom | Discovering Our Heritage

Some lessons cannot be found within the pages of a textbook.

Our Form 1 learners recently travelled to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins in Masvingo, where they had the opportunity to explore one of Africa’s most significant historical sites and connect with the rich heritage of our nation.

Walking among the ancient stone walls, our young men gained a deeper appreciation of the ingenuity, leadership and craftsmanship of the people who built this remarkable civilisation.

Experiences such as these encourage curiosity, broaden perspectives and remind our boys that they are part of a much bigger story — one shaped by those who came before them and influenced by the choices they make today.

At CBC, education is about more than acquiring knowledge. It is about developing young men who understand their history, value their identity and are prepared to contribute meaningfully to the future.

Living the Legacy of Edmund Rice

At CBC, the values of Edmund Rice are not simply taught — they are lived.

The Edmund Rice Society recently visited Mustard Seeds Children’s Home in Bulawayo, an organisation whose mission reflects a deep commitment to compassion, dignity and care for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

During their visit, our young men had the opportunity to learn about the incredible work being done at Mustard Seeds, from providing homes and support for children with diverse needs, to community outreach programmes, nutrition initiatives and early childhood development centres.

Yet the most meaningful part of the experience was not only what our boys learnt about the organisation, but the connections they made. Through songs, conversations, laughter and shared moments, they were reminded of the importance of seeing others with kindness, respect and understanding.

For CBC, service is not an activity added to education. It is an essential part of the education we provide.

Inspired by Edmund Rice, we believe young men must be formed not only to succeed in the world, but to serve it — with compassion, humility and a genuine concern for others.

Finding Their Voice | CBC Model United Nations

Leadership begins with the ability to listen, to understand different perspectives and to engage thoughtfully with the challenges facing our world.

Members of the CBC Model United Nations Club participated in DC MUN II hosted by Dominican Convent High School, joining more than 10 schools from across the country for a conference centred around “Edge of History: Leadership, Ethics, and Global Challenges in a Modern World.”

Through respectful debate and challenging discussions, our young men were given the opportunity to test their ideas, develop their confidence and explore what responsible leadership looks like in times of uncertainty.

We congratulate the following boys for their outstanding achievements:

- Busiso Nyoni — Best Chair
- Daniel Ncube — Most Promising Delegate (UNHRC)
- Ridhwaan Gaibie — Most Promising Delegate (GA1)
- Ethan Mabhena — Best Delegate (ECOSOC)
- Thembinkosi Mathonsi — Best Delegate (African Union)
- Moses Davies — Honourable Mention (GA1)
- Kevin Watungwa — Best Delegate (GA1)

Special recognition goes to Daniel Ncube, whose exceptional commitment to Model United Nations continues to set a remarkable example.

In 2026 alone, Daniel has earned awards at five of the six conferences he has attended, representing different nations and committees across Zimbabwe. His achievements include recognition for Best Delegate, Most Honorable Delegate, Most Promising Delegate, Best Written Position Paper and Best Chair.

Through his dedication to research, critical thinking, debate and diplomacy, Daniel has demonstrated the qualities of a young leader who is prepared to engage with the world beyond the classroom.

These achievements are not simply awards. They represent curiosity, discipline, confidence and the courage to use one’s voice with purpose.

At CBC, we believe leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room. It is about being a thoughtful voice — one that listens, understands and contributes.

The Journey Continues Beyond the Gates

We are proud to celebrate three CBC Old Boys who have been selected to represent Zimbabwe U20 Rugby at the Barthés Trophy 2026.

Congratulations to Sibusiso Sibanda, Mthabisi Ndlovu and Michael Chimedza on this outstanding achievement.

Their selection is a reflection of the dedication, discipline and passion they have shown throughout their rugby journeys. It is also a reminder that the values formed at CBC — commitment, teamwork, resilience and leadership — continue long after a young man leaves the College gates.

Proudly Representing Zimbabwe

Today, we wish the Zimbabwe U16 Water Polo team safe travels as they depart for the World Championships.

Among the talented young athletes representing our nation are four CBC boys: Logan Lumsden, Lwandile Maphosa, Nicholas Nkala and Watipa Zvenyika.

To represent your country is a tremendous honour and a reflection of commitment, discipline and perseverance. We are proud of the dedication these young men have shown, and we know they will carry themselves with pride, humility and determination.

We wish the entire Zimbabwe U16 Water Polo team the very best as they take on the world stage. May this be an unforgettable experience filled with challenge, growth and memories that last a lifetime.

CBC Shines at the Gateway Chess Tournament

Congratulations to our CBC chess players on another excellent performance at the Gateway Chess Tournament, competing against 17 teams in the Junior Boys category.

CBC Team A finished in 3rd place, earning the bronze trophy and bronze medals through a series of impressive performances.

A special congratulations to our Team A players:
Jayden Muzioreva – Board 1
Delroy Mlotshwa – Board 2
Prince Mandina – Board 3
Jani Michael – Board 4

Special recognition goes to Prince Mandina, who was named Best Board 3, finishing 1st out of 68 players in the Junior Boys category after winning every one of his games—a truly outstanding achievement.

We also commend CBC Team B (11th) and CBC Team C (10th) for their determination and commitment. All three teams received a Consistency Participation Award, recognising their continued support of chess tournaments regardless of location—a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our players.

Well done to every boy who represented CBC with focus, sportsmanship, and pride. We look forward to many more successes across the chessboard.

Lessons Beyond the Classroom

As our mid-year examinations and mock examinations draw to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the season that has been.

Examinations test more than knowledge. They test preparation, discipline, perseverance and the courage to keep going when the challenge feels demanding.

For our young men, these moments are part of a much bigger journey — learning how to manage pressure, take responsibility and grow through every experience.

There are still lessons to be learnt, opportunities to embrace and challenges ahead in the remainder of the term. But today, we pause to recognise the commitment shown and the resilience demonstrated.

Because education is not only about what a young man achieves. It is about the character he builds along the way.
