Guys and girls..... what is happening now is that we have found out why this KG6 FB site is not working the way we had hoped. Your posts to this site are going into funny places and nobody is finding them. We will still keep this KG6 FB site becuase there is already lots of old photos here. We are starting up a different KG6 site which is a Closed Group site - that will work in the same way as your own FB. So if you want to show us new photos etc, do it on the new site. Hope all this makes sense!

Guys and girls - I think what is happening is not everyone is getting the posts here. If you see anyone missing here, just ask them to LIKE this KG6 site by clicking on the 'Like' button at the very top (by the KG6 banner). We have invited many ex-KG6 to join but they have not accepted the invitation (maybe they did not understand why). If you get this post, it means that you have LIKED this KG6 site so you should be ok. You may already be contact with a few ex-KG6 but have they LIKED this site?? Do you see anyone missing????
Many of you will remember school teacher Mrs Edna Aimes. If any of you would like to contact her, here is her email address [email protected]
There have been many 'mini reunions' around the world over the last 2-4 years where somebody met someone for the first time in many years but there are no reports or photos posted here! If it was not for this KG6 FB page, many of you would not have found and met your long lost friends again. How about contributing something towards this KG6 site? Posting photos on your own FB does not show up here for others to see!!

Ok guys and gals.... we want to hear some KG6 stories from all of you! Tell us of any funny stories that happened at school or at the hostel!
We will start with this photo. Do you remember the days when we (the boys) could grow our hair long and get away with it? Also the tight shorts that some boys wore!!!! We also did a lot of our sports in bare feet.

Peter was one of the earlist pupils at the school. He was there at KG6 from about 1954 till his death in 1960. He had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Peter was a border at the hostel - his home town was Gwelo. Photos taken around 1956 and 1957. There are other photos of Peter on this site - in a xmas play.
Photos contributed by Peter's sister, Mary Harper.
Message from Penelope Oosthuizen.
Hi there. Some of you may remember John Moger. He was the Welfare guy who watched over some of you while you were in KGVI. Well he passed away on yesterday in hospital. Luckily some of his family were over from Australia to be with him. His funeral is in Swindon UK on Friday. Just do remember his family in your quite time. Funeral is at 1.00PM. Thank you

Large one page article in the Bulawayo Chronicle - 11/02/1955
Photos and newspaper articles provided by Guy Shin. Guy was one of the very first pupils who was there when the school first opened.
In case you may have missed a message on this site sent late last year from Shelly Lasker, the current chairman of the committee at the KG6 school. She reports that the school remains a remarkable institution, has committed staff, happy kids in spite of the economic challenges in Zimbabwe. The school has an active FB page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/King-George-VI-Centre/185840478158743 and also they have a separate website at
http://ihussey.wix.com/king-george-6 Both of these sites are worth looking at.
Through the eagle eyes of Nigel Wilson, he spotted Maimuna Karbanee Zannar on FB. She still lives in Byo and she has also been looking for classmates. Many thanks to Nigel!
There was an announcement by the SPAR Group FB announcing that they had sponsored a xmas lunch for all 350 pupils last week. Many thanks to Vera for the info. It is interesting to see how many pupils there are at the school.

A small group got together, with 2 new members. Andrew Cawsey, Karen Borland, Simon Bolze, Vera Rust and newcomers - Guy Shinn and Veronica Klopper. Guy was one of the very first pupils at the school - he was there right from the beginning in 1954 when the school was first built. Veronica is the wife of the late Danny Klopper. We started by meeting at the Waterloo station, then proceeded to the pier at the base of the London Eye. Once on the Thames Clipper we went downstream to Greenwich where we had a long lunch. After that, we went back onto another Thames Clipper (we all had a day travel pass, with unlimited hop on hop off tickets) and went to the O2. Did a quick walkabout inside the huge O2. We got back onto another Thames Clipper back to the London Eye.
Guy Shinn had many interesting stories to tell - having been at a private school which later became KG6. He also brought along photos - to be added to this site in an album timelined to 1954 (right at the bottom of this KG6 site's Timeline - view on a PC).
