ALUMNI FOCUS - MILNER KAZEMBE JR.

We had an opportunity to have a written interview with Milner Kazembe Jr Also known as Jemudo amongst his peers during High School days. Here is what he had to say.
1. How do you describe yourself?
I would describe myself as a self-driven and ambitious individual who is passionate about personal growth and development. I am a hard worker who is not afraid to take on challenges and push myself to achieve my goals. I am also a team player who values collaboration and enjoys working with others to achieve common objectives.
2. As an Alumni of Siavonga Secondary School, what core lesson, apart from academics, did you get from the school?
One of the core lessons I learned from Siavonga Secondary School was the importance of leadership and community involvement. Through my involvement in various extracurricular activities such as the sports club and serving as a school prefect, I learned the value of taking responsibility and being an active participant in life. I also learned how to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals, which has been invaluable in my professional career.
3. In Grade 12, you were chosen as a school prefect. How did that experience nurture your future experiences?
Being chosen as a school prefect in Grade 12 was a very formative experience for me, and it helped me to develop a range of important skills that have continued to be relevant throughout my professional life. For one thing, being a prefect taught me how to lead by example and be a positive influence on others, which is a skill that I have carried with me into my career.
In addition, serving as a prefect required me to be organized, responsible, and reliable, as I was responsible for various tasks and activities around the school. These skills have also been invaluable in my professional life, as I have continued to take on roles that require a high degree of organization and responsibility, such as my current position as a Territory Sales Executive.
Finally, my experience as University of Zambia Student Union Minister of information, research and employment further reinforced the skills that I learned as a school prefect. As a Minister, I was responsible for communicating important information to students, conducting research on issues affecting the student body, and working with others to develop policies and programs to support student employment. All of these responsibilities required me to draw on the same skills that I developed as a prefect, such as leadership, organization, and responsibility.
Overall, I believe that my experience as a school prefect was instrumental in shaping my future experiences and helping me to become the professional that I am today.
4. Who was your favourite Teacher/Teachers at Siavonga Secondary School?
I had many great teachers at Siavonga Secondary School, but one who stood out to me was Mr. Humanize, my English teacher. He was not only knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, but he was also a great mentor and role model. He challenged me to think critically and helped me develop my life into very hardworking person, this has been invaluable in my academic and professional career.
5. Let's talk about your network with former school mates. What do you think is the value of keeping in touch with individuals you spent time with during studies?
I believe that keeping in touch with former schoolmates is extremely valuable for several reasons. First, it allows us to maintain important relationships and connections that can be beneficial personally and professionally. Second, it provides an opportunity to reconnect with individuals who share common experiences and memories, which can be very rewarding. Finally, it enables us to stay informed about the successes and achievements of our former classmates, which can be inspiring and motivating.
6. Where is Milner at now? What are your plans for the future?
Currently, I am working as a Territory Sales Executive at Airtel Zambia while pursuing a Master of Business Administration with University of Zambia, School of business. My long-term goal is to continue to grow and develop my career in the telecommunications industry, with a focus on people management and organizational development. I am committed to lifelong learning and self-improvement, and I believe that my education and professional experience have prepared me well for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
