The sentence rules

Reading develops step by step, like building blocks. Each stage prepares the child for the next one, and when it is taught properly, reading becomes natural and enjoyable.

The first step is letter sound recognition. This is where children learn the sounds each letter makes, not just the letter names. For example, A says /a/ like apple, B says /b/ like ball, C says /k/ like cat. At this stage, the focus is on hearing, recognizing, and repeating sounds so the child becomes familiar with how language works.

Next is CV (Consonant–Vowel) blending. Here, we take one consonant and combine it with different vowels to form simple sound units. For example:

* b + a = ba
* b + e = be
* b + i = bi
* b + o = bo
* b + u = bu

We also practice with other consonants:

* m + a = ma
* t + a = ta
* s + e = se

At this stage, children are not yet forming full words, but they are learning how sounds join together smoothly.

Then we move into CVC (Consonant–Vowel–Consonant) words. This is where real word building begins. The child learns to blend three sounds to form simple words.

We build it step by step:

Bring the CV words which the child have learnt then add each consonants

* ba + b= bab
* be + d= bed
* bi + d = bid
* bu + d = bud
* bo + b= bob

After CVC, we introduce digraphs Digraphs are when two letters come together to make one sound. For example:

* sh = ship
* ch = chair
* th = thin / that
* wh = whale

At this stage, children stop reading letter by letter and start recognizing sound patterns as one unit.

Finally, we introduce sight words. These are words children recognize instantly without sounding them out. Examples include: (the, was, are, you, come, here). Many of these words do not follow normal phonics rules, so children simply learn to recognize them by sight.

When all these steps are taught in sequence, letter sounds, CV blending, CVC words, digraphs, and sight words, children move from struggling readers to confident readers. They stop guessing and start reading with understanding and fluency.
