THE LUNDA KINGDOM OF MWATA KAZEMBE

ORIGIN ( 1680 - 1760 )

It originated from the already existing kingdom of ( MWATA yamvo ) and was the second large scale kingdom to develop in Zambia after Undi 's kingdom about 1680 MWATA yamvo called muteba sent out one of his subordinate, Mutanda yembe yembe to conquer land to the East which was rich in copper and salt pans . Chinyanta the ancestors of the MWATA KAZEMBE's was associated with this expansion and proved to be loyal and useful. He informed MWATA yamvo that Mutanda yemba yemba was not being loyal as he was withholding tribute . On hearing this Mutanda yembe yembe got annoyed and killed chinyanta . However , MWATA yamvo armies were able to over come and killed him as well . But , another subordinate chief lubanda fled into Zambia .

KAZEMBE' 1 ( 1700- 1720s )

As the rewards for the loyalty of the dead chinyanta . MWATA yamvo muteba gave his , Ngànda Biloda the title of MWATA KAZEMBE and hence the first MWATA KAZEMBE . He sent to continue the expansion of the LUNDA KINGDOM to LUNDA people around the 1700s but unfortunately he got drowned in the luapula around the early 1720s
