CHIBUMBU PRIMARY SCHOOL HISTORY IN A FEW WORDS PART 2

Ahead of the PF Candidate adoptions last year, Chibumbu was privileged to host 4 PF Mambilima Constituency meetings at which the MP and then General Education Minister was in attendance. Uninvited to all 4 meetings, I instigated the Ward Chair and other officials who had children at the school to be nugging the minister over a new 1by3 Classroom block and establishment of the school. It took me time to lecture, convince and make the ward officials accept that establishing the school was important.

One day, the ward Chairman Mr Chola called and told me that the minister had accepted our requests and promised not just the Chair but score of Chibumbu villagers in attendance that he would deliver a 1*3 CRB and Establish Chibumbu as a Basic School.

Both these developments were delivered as promised, making Chibumbu the only primary school in Mwense to be established in April 2021.

It had taken me exactly 9 years and one month to grow the school to a level at which Government accepted to get our school established.

Unfortunately, the "Normal Channel" took place and a different person was appointed to become the now newly established Chibumbu Basic School's first head teacher and I, a senior teacher who ran and grew the school for 9 years, was appointed and asked to be his deputy head. I leave it to you professional readers to react. As I write this post, Chibumbu Basic School is, which I proudly grew and re-named, during my 9 year race is benefiting another person with a J scale on a silver plate. What a motivation for my next station.

I want to conclude with a strong disagreement against the words once attributed to Mr Kamba that civil servants are not supporting the government of PF. We are. And I am a prime example of that support. To have done the job of a head for 9 years on a class or senior teacher's salary is that not a sacrificial service to the govt? It is. Only demotivation such as I have experienced at Chibumbu that may be causing some workers to be underperforming.

Let our govt stumpout all potential loopholes for demotivation and reward sucrificial service accordingly then undoubtedly, public service output will more than triple even with COVID 19 enforced economic challenges.

CHIBUMBU PRIMARY SCHOOL HISTORY IN A FEW WORDS

Let me tell a few things about my beautiful school, which is located right at the Mambilima falls National Heritage Site in Mwense districtof Luapula province.

Hi, am Dickson Mulenga the acting head at the school.

Chibumbu primary school started on 20th January 2006, just 6 months earlier than my first born son. It was registered as Buyantanshi Community School by Mr Charles Kaoma, who paid K20,000 unrebursed to Mr Nsakulula (MHSRIP) a Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) representative at Mwense District Education Office.

The school ran for 5 yrs under 100% community management with volunteer teachers who were paid through community contributions. It was in April 2012 when I made history at the school by becoming it's very first professionally trained teacher. By then there was only a mud brick, grass thatched classroom block which leaked like a tree in the summer. Forcing us to keep school materials at the PTA Treasures' house. The school by then ran up to grade 4 with grade 5 pupils going to nearby Chalwe primary school some 3kilometres away. For those who don't know Chalwe, this is the village that will host the famed Mwenda - Kasomeno bridge.

With a vibrant PCSC/PTA, we set out to grow the school but it seemed impossible at the time. I set up and was lucky to meet our area MP then Hon. Mumba who prove to be a great help. In oder to rebrand the school, I suggested changing the name of the school to the name of it's more famous host village and polling station Chibumbu and the idea was accepted by the community. So we did just that between 2013 and 2015. It worked like magic. Of course not without opposition even at the district office.

The school recieved its first ever permanent classroom block, a 1 by 2, and two more trained teachers.

In 2016, we had our very first grade 7 class and have never looked back. Among the mile stones achieved in 2016, our school scooped the first prize in poetry at the mwense district inter school Arts festival.....

His Exellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will come within 3km of Mambilima falls, which is right behind our school, when he comes to break the ground at the site for the Kasomeno-Mwenda toll road bridge at Chalwe here in Mwense.

Before the National Heritage Conservation Commission posted an officer to our area, my school was flooded with visitors coming to see the mambilima falls.

One of these visitors offered to build us a new school with staff accommodation and electricity, which our 1*2 sole classroom block lacks, if only we could agree to relocate the school to another area of the village and allow him to build a lodge in the school area. He further offered a 5% in the lodge to the school community and bought sports kit for our pupils.

We couldn't agree more with him, but had no power to do what he asked of government land.

Your Exellency, building on the man's idea, we are appealing to you to build a government lodge or hotel here and set up a combined primary/ secondary boarding school school for tourism and cultural arts here at Chibumbu primary. This will not only generate revenue for government, given the mwenda - kasomeno toll road bridge 3km south of the school, but as well create employment for Zambia's youth.

The Chibumbu Combined School for Tourism and Cultural Arts if implements, will not only give the craved development to our community but as well, secure the largely neglected Mambilima falls National Heritage Site.

Fellow ZAMBIAN Teachers, especially those toilling like me in ADMINSTRATIVE POSITIONS in COMMUNITY SCHOOLS and UN-ESTABLISHED PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Is there NO REMEDY in sight to our AGONY?

- 2 friends of mine with whom i was seconded to Head Communty Schools around 2011 were recently rewarded with almost punishments for their 6 or so Years of toilling as Head teachers on a Class teacher's salary.
