A SPEECH TO BE DELIVERED IN PARLIAMENT BY THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION ON THE PROBLEMS HIS MINISTRY IS FACING ON 20TH APRIL, 2026
The Madam Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Members of Parliament, and the Ministers with their portfolios, all protocol observed.
Allow me to express my humble gratitude to you about the challenges my ministry is facing.
Firstly, Madam Speaker, I would like to talk about inadequate classroom accommodation. Madam Speaker, people are suffering due to the classrooms because at schools you will find that in one classroom there are many pupils, and that is not good for the pupils. Madam Speaker, I am asking if you can work on this.
Madam Speaker, I would also like to talk about the construction of more schools in communities. Many people and pupils are suffering to go to school because schools are not enough. You will find that pupils are walking long distances from where they are staying, and Madam Speaker, that is making young children stop school because they are not able to manage the distance.
Madam Speaker, I would like to tell you that many people are suffering due to lack of teachers and learning materials at schools because teachers are not enough and materials such as desks, chalk, and dusters are also not enough.
Furthermore, Madam Speaker, I would like to say employ more teachers that will help us in teaching the pupils because it is not good. You will find that at a school there are only two or three teachers, and that is not good at all.
Madam Speaker, people are complaining about teachers who are not qualified. People are looking for qualified teachers because those who are not qualified are not teaching well, and some teachers only like drinking alcohol.
Madam Speaker, in society there is no serious teaching going on because of not teaching, and they are not serious at all. Madam Speaker, I would like to say we can be happy if you just send us serious teachers that will help us in teaching our children.
Moreover, Madam Speaker, teachers are also complaining about salaries because teachers cannot teach well when their salaries are not enough. They cannot even manage their living.
Also, teachers must have more funding. If not, you will find that teachers will stop teaching, and that is bad for our children.
In addition, Madam Speaker, you should also improve conditions of service for teachers so that they can continue teaching the children and make them understand what they are being taught.
Furthermore, Madam Speaker, migration of teachers seeking greener pastures should be addressed so that teachers can have interest in teaching and also make the children interested.
Lastly, Madam Speaker, I would like to talk about more supervision required in our schools. We want the schools to be looking clean, and Madam Speaker, we are asking for your help as the government to help us in doing all this.
In conclusion, I would like to say we hope and trust that you are going to help us in all these issues that we have talked about.
THANK YOU.
