PRESS STATEMENT
For immediate release
*Lusaka, 29th November 2025*: The St. John's Secondary School Alumni Association has kicked off a series of activities aimed at raising funds to contribute towards the improvement of critical infrastructure at the Mongu-based learning institution.
During the St. John's Secondary School Alumni Association-organised Reunion Party held at Symphony Gardens in Lusaka's Chalala residential area on Saturday, Association chaiperson Joseph Sitali, said the funds being raised will go towards rehabilitation of school infrastructure and construction of a perimeter fence to secure St. John's Secondary School land.
Dr Sitali, a veterinary surgeon who left the school in 1974, said a total of over 4,000 individuals passed through St. John's Secondary School, and he urged them to appreciate the value-laden education they received from there by getting involved in the ongoing fundraising efforts.
Dr Sitali said the support the school, established as St. John's College in 1962 by the Cappuchin Franciscans, got from well-wishers specifically in Europe, had diminished, and it was now the responsibility of the former students and pupils to extend support towards the running of the learning institution.
And officiating as the guest-of-honour at the event, attended by a number of former students and pupils, Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer MWALA KALALUKA, also a former pupil, said the diverse skills set produced from St. John's Secondary School was sufficient social capital to sustainably improve and maintain learning standards at the school.
Mr. Kalaluka urged all former students and pupils who passed through St. John's Secondary School to get on board and join forces with the school alumni association to ensure learning standards at the school are enhanced for the benefit of future generations.
During the event the Association managed to raise K100, 000 from pledges, with some ex-pupils paying cash on the spot.
