Guest Farewell Address
Colleagues, students, and the supporting staff,
Today marks a bittersweet moment as I bid farewell to the Ministry of Education and St. Mary's College of Education, in particular, where I've had the honor of serving as a Senior Lecturer. As I retire on this 17th of April, 2026, I'm filled with gratitude and nostalgia.
I began my teaching journey on May 1st, 1995, as a primary school teacher, little knowing it would blossom into a fulfilling 31-year career. Over the years, I've had the privilege of growing professionally, earning a Diploma, Degree, and Master's in Special Education.
To my students, you've been my inspiration. Your resilience and determination have driven me to be a better educator. To my colleagues and supporting staff, your support and camaraderie have made this journey unforgettable.
As I close this chapter, I leave with cherished memories and a sense of pride in the impact we've made. I'll carry the lessons learned and friendships forged here forward.
Thank you, and may St. Mary's College continue to thrive.
Finally, may the Almighty bless you all.
we shall Miss you!

NO DREAM IS TOO BIG
The whistle of 2018 blew softly… and only a few believed. 🏀
In 2018, St. Mary’s College of Education made its first-ever appearance at the College Ball Games. We were the underdogs and understandably so. It was our maiden participation. Though I did not personally attend that tournament, I heard stories of how our students struggled, especially in basketball. It was a difficult beginning, but seeds are often planted in hard soil.
Fast forward to 2023.
I started a project that many believed would never work. Some laughed. Others called me a dreamer. But dreams, when held firmly, begin to grow legs. I walked into the Vice Principal’s office, Mr. Kwenge, and shared my vision to construct the first-ever basketball court at St. Mary’s College of Education. He was excited, yet curious about how the funds would be raised.
I presented the Bill of Quantities K75,000.
He looked at it and said, “Wow, this is a lot of money.”
I explained my fundraising plan. He smiled and said, “That’s genius… but many people fail because they listen to others.”
He then became the very first contributor.
The following day, we began clearing the land with students from the 2022–2023 intake. These students were instrumental from day one to completion. They offered human labour that saved us significant costs. At one point, we hit a financial wall. Funds ran dry. Progress stalled. But I remained focused. I sacrificed my allowances and kept pushing. The dream mattered more than comfort.
Eventually, the project was completed. 🙌
After completion, we partnered with several stakeholders Foundation, OMC Pharmacy and Lending who have since invested greatly in St. Mary’s College basketball the All Saints. The court became more than just concrete and paint. It became a home. A safe space. A platform. Youths from the college and surrounding villages now had something meaningful to do. What started as a small idea turned into a life-changing opportunity for many.
Fast forward again to 2026.
All Saints Basketball Team returned to the College Ball Games not as underdogs, but as tournament contenders. Years of training showed. The level was unmatched. Doubters became believers. The same institution once overlooked now commanded respect. 💪🔥
This journey teaches us one simple truth:
No dream is too big.
Great stories often begin quietly. With courage. With sacrifice. With stubborn belief. When you put your heart into something, the impossible slowly becomes inevitable.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it.
Build it. Grow it. Live it.
Congratulations to All Saints on their recent achievements in Mansa. The journey continues… and the whistle is still blowing. 🏀

Coach Simpasa, congratulations for this wonderful performance in basketball tournament. You're are a great lecturer to reckon with. I am proud of you and I have lived to see the success of your labour despite some people making it difficult for you to achieve your goal, you did not give up and look behind. All of us today, as a college, we are proud of your achievement. From the one who coined SMACE for St. Mary's College of Education in 2016. To God, glory be today and forever in Jesus Christ's name.
