Nurse ends own life in Police cells after allegations of scamming mobile money agent

A 26YEAR-OLD woman of Kazungula has allegedly taken her own life while in police detention.

Milimo Mpongo was on Thursday morning reportedly found suspended on the roof, in a female cell at Kazungula Police Station.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo explained that between 14:00 and 16:00 hours on Wednesday, August 27, 2026 Mpongo is alleged to have visited four Airtel Money businesses in Kazungula District.

She is alleged to have requested mobile money deposits ranging from K1,000 to K3,400 into her number, before leaving the premises without completing the transactions.

"It is alleged that after the transactions, she would open a small black laptop bag she was carrying and claim that she had forgotten the money at home before disappearing from the respective places.

"Following the complaints Mpongo was apprehended and detained at Kazungula Police Station.

"Officers spoke to her at around 07:00 hours on Thursday, August 28, and found her well. She was later found in distress in the female cells. Police and medical personnel responded, and she was taken to Kazungula General Hospital where she was pronounced dead,"he said.

Namalongo said the deceased’s relatives were notified and that the body was later transferred to Livingstone Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination.

Marriage is about s*x, give it to your husband even when upset, court orders Lusaka woman

THE Matero Local Court has ordered a 27 year old woman to go and twist her waist in bed like Tshala Muana for her husband until the matrimonial bedroom is turned upside down, after she was accused of having a tendency of denying him s*x whenever they had a misunderstanding.

Magistrate Harriet Mulenga had to remind Lyness Kalewa that marriage was not for watching football matches that see most teams like Manchester United lose but for ruthless game gymnastics that result in scoring goals like Arsenal did last Friday.

The magistrate also took Lyness through a refresher course in the marital syllabus, which demands that no matter what happens in the house, horizontal refreshments for two opposite genders living in the same house must continue, and wives must be available to quench the thirst of their husbands even on days when they are not talking to each other.

Lyness was in court seeking reconciliation with her 34 year old husband, John Kalenga, who, like Miss Tokyo's husband, had even paid lobola in full.

She shared that the two got married in 2024 and, for a full year, their marriage was as clean as Simon Mwewa Lane, the cleanest street in Lusaka.

But the marriage started getting dirty when Lyness began knocking off late from her business, making her husband uncomfortable.

This led him to chase her away from their matrimonial home whenever she returned home after 17:00 hours.

And so, Lyness was seeking the court's intervention to reconcile her with her husband and make him understand that her business usually booms after 17:00 hours and that she has to stay a bit longer to make some sales.

However, when the court gave John a chance to give his testimony, it was discovered that Lyness was the problem, as she treated her husband like the biblical Moses by allowing him to see the "Promised Land" but not enter it.

Man Burns Home After Dispute With Wife Over Nshima

A 51-year-old man of Ndola's Mabungula area in Twapia is in police custody, after he allegedly burnt down his family home after a dispute over Nshima .

Copperbelt Police Commissioner of RAE HAMOONGA says the matter was reported to the Police by the suspect's wife, MALISENI KAPINDULA, aged 40.

Mr. HAMOONGA says the couple was drinking beer at their residence with their son-in-law when the complainant prepared Nshima for the son-in-law but did not serve her husband.

He says this resulted in DICKSON MUTEPUKA throwing burning firewood onto the grass-thatched roof in a moment of rage.

He said the fire spread fast, burning down the entire house and all property before the neighbors could put it out.

Mr. HAMOONGA said no injuries or loss of life were recorded.

The swearing-in of President-elect HAKAINDE HICHILEMA will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA says the seven-day period provided for filing a petition challenging the presidential election has expired without the Judiciary receiving any petition.

Mr. KANGWA says the swearing-in will proceed in accordance with Article 105 of the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016.

He said in a statement to ZNBC news that the venue for the inauguration ceremony will be announced in due course.
