A visit to Stanford University 3rd best World University

The context in which I live is the best example of my teaching to make my lessons real and understood. My context provides a reflection for my learners to understand their environment and how the child develops in that particualr environment. In discussing the exosystem for instance, many factors influence the way parents undertstand whether society supports their children with disabilities or not. For example, lack of employment for persons with disabilities may discourage parents of children with disabilities from sending their children to school because they know their children will not be employed. The macro system levels discusses more about policy, legislation, ethnic and religious beliefs and how these affect parents and children with disabilities. I will not hestate to state that Zambia in particular among other third world countries may not have good legislation, policies, beliefs, resources that support persons with disabilities. If Zambia had good policies, implementation is not to the expected standards. This leaves the child at the micro systems level under pressure. As a teacher, I have a duty to give examples from various angles. Countries that have been at war, have gone through economic recessions, poverty can never boast of having better microsystems framework. It is unfortunate, criminal and unfair that we decide to ignore the core issues being taught and trivialise lessons and reduce very important learning points to be understood otherwise. Such attitudes are not welcome. A learning environment is a place where everyone regardless of their affliations should be free to learn and contribute to the understanding of the lesson AND INDEED our context in which we shall operate, in this case working with parents of children with disabilities. I have and we have only one cause, "to improve our environments for the betterment of everyone including the disabled". God bless you all!!!
