Good afternoon 😃 all here is some exciting news 🗞!!!
Government engages ZNS to construct the venue for WorldSkills Africa Competition
As preparations for the hosting of the World Skills Africa Competition in Livingstone in April 2025 intensify, the Ministry of Technology and Science has engaged the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to build an exhibition venue.
The Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) is the venue for the World Skills Africa Competition which will be held in Africa for the first time.
Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has given ZNS six months to construct the exhibition venue and deliver it on time.
Hon. Mutati says the Ministry opted to engage ZNS due to their competence in such projects.
"It is a matter of urgency and we want the exhibition venue ready as soon as possible. We know ZNS performs well that is why we have opted to engage you for this job," said Hon. Mutati.
The Minister revealed that ground breaking for the exhibition venue will be done on 1st June 2024 and that the project is expected to be handed over to the government in December 2024, four months before the event is held.
And ZNS Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff Major General Reuben Mwewa said the men and women in uniform are equal to the task and ready to work.
"We are just waiting for marching orders from you for us to move on site, otherwise we will do what is needed," said Maj. Gen. Mwewa.
And the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has offered to give technical advise for the project.
EIZ Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Eng. David Kamungu said the drawings for the exhibition venue are ready and the institute will work as a consultant during the construction stage.
Meanwhile, TEVETA Director General Cleophas Takaiza said Zambia had identified 20 skills, which will be competed for at the World Skills Africa 2025 Competition in the Tourist Capital Livingstone.
Mr. Takaiza said the event will offer an opportunity for Zambians to learn and compete from their colleagues from different countries.
"Hosting the Skills Competition will provide our youths with a platform to showcase their talent and aspire for excellence. Skills Competitions are known to propose quality and development of a competent and competitive workforce," he added.
