Common Wellbeing Donates 1,600 Stethoscopes to UNZA School of Medicine

On 11th August 2026, Common Wellbeing made a landmark contribution to Zambia’s health sector by donating 1,600 stethoscopes to the University of Zambia School of Medicine, alongside associated medical equipment and supplies to the University Teaching Hospitals’ Children’s Hospital and Women and Newborn Hospital. The ceremony, held at UTH’s D Block foyer, was officiated by the organization’s Founder and CEO, Mr. Scott Reiner, who shared the vision and impact of Common Wellbeing since its inception three years ago, highlighting its focus on maternal and pediatric health and the training of healthcare workers.

The event was attended by distinguished leaders and professionals, including Dr. Mukatimui Kalima Munalula, Senior Medical Superintendent of the Women and Newborn Hospital; Dr. Nfwama Kawatu, Head of Clinical Care, representing the Senior Medical Superintendent of the Children’s Hospital; Prof. Evans Mpabalwani, Dean of the School of Medicine; and Dr. Agrippa Lungu, Head of Clinical Care, Women and Newborn Hospital. Also present were Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Hospital Administrators, Common Wellbeing Foundation founders and board members, members of staff from various institutions, the media, and medical students.

In his remarks, Prof. Mpabalwani expressed deep appreciation for the donation, emphasizing the critical role stethoscopes play in medical training. He urged Common Wellbeing to continue its impactful work in supporting healthcare delivery and education.

The stethoscopes will be entrusted to the Department of Medical Education for use in the Clinical Methods and Skills course, a cornerstone of the third-year curriculum. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the quality of medical training, equipping students with essential diagnostic and clinical competencies that will strengthen their readiness for clinical practice and future service in Zambia’s healthcare system.

This donation not only enriches medical education but also reflects Common Wellbeing’s broader mission of investing in sustainable healthcare solutions. By fostering collaboration and supporting the next generation of medical professionals, the organization continues to play a vital role in building resilient health systems and advancing clinical excellence.

Med 5 carved their path to glory in the UNZAMEDSA Gold Basketball Tournament through a flawless round robin campaign, securing their third consecutive championship in commanding fashion. From the opening whistle, they stamped authority on the court, dismantling Med 4 with a 30–13 victory in their first game. Their momentum carried into the second clash, where they outlasted Med 6 in a high-energy battle, finishing 28–17. By the third game, Med 5 were untouchable, crushing Med 3 with an emphatic 22–4 win that showcased their depth and versatility. The fourth encounter against Med 7 was another statement of dominance, ending in a decisive 24–5 triumph that sealed their place at the top of the table. In the final round robin showdown, Med 5 faced Med 2 and delivered a championship performance, controlling every possession en route to a 24–8 victory.

With five straight wins and overwhelming margins, Med 5’s round robin sweep cements their dynasty as Ridgeway’s basketball powerhouse. Their three-peat is not just a record — it is a testament to resilience, brilliance, and the spirit of champions. The Rezza Boys have proven that greatness is sustained, and their golden legacy now shines brighter than ever.

The UNZAMEDSA GOLD Futsal Tournament began with Med 6 announcing themselves in style, defeating Med 4 by 2–0 in their opening fixture. They carried that momentum into their second game, overpowering MEDfits 5–2, with Arnold Tembo already stamping his authority on the tournament. Their third outing was another statement of intent, a 4–1 victory over Med 7, highlighted by Tembo’s first hat-trick of the campaign.

Med 6’s resilience was tested in their fourth match against Med 5, where they suffered their only defeat of the season, a heavy 2–6 loss. Yet, true champions respond, and Med 6 did just that. They edged Med 2 by a narrow 1–0 scoreline, showing grit and defensive discipline. In their sixth match, they produced one of their most crucial wins, defeating Med 3 by 3–1, with Tembo once again finding the net to keep their title hopes alive.

Their final fixture against Booze FC sealed the crown in emphatic fashion. Med 6 ran out 4–1 winners, powered by Tembo’s third hat-trick of the tournament. This victory not only secured their place at the top of the table with 18 points but also showcased the attacking brilliance that defined their campaign.

Across these seven matches, Med 6 recorded six wins and one loss, scoring 21 goals and conceding 11. Arnold Tembo was the heartbeat of their success, netting 14 goals, including hat-tricks against Med 7, MEDfits, and Booze FC. His performances turned tight contests into decisive victories and ensured Med 6’s march to the title never faltered after their lone setback.

In the end, Med 6’s journey was a story of dominance, recovery, and brilliance. From their opening win to their final triumph, they proved themselves worthy champions, with Tembo’s golden touch ensuring the UNZAMEDSA GOLD Futsal trophy belonged to them.
