With 80 days remaining before the August 13th General Elections, any presidential candidate who wishes to visit all 226 Constituencies needs to devise a plan to visit minimum of 3 Constituencies per day between now and 12th August, 2026

ON WASTE MANAGEMENT AND POPULATION

Waste management is not a static engineering problem; it is a dynamic human problem. An accurate understanding of population growth, density, and shifting demographics is the baseline data needed to design any sustainable, proper garbage disposal system. Having said that, Lusaka needs a lasting solution to deal with the mountains of garbage and poor waste management practices in the city.

The picture attached shows a "Private Dump Site" at one of the Houses in Mtendere Residential Area, just near PHI. And yes, this house is occupied, it has full time residents.

With the presidential nominations wrapped up, 14 candidates have successfully filed. Off the top of your head, how many of them can you actually name?

What is the role of a Member of Parliament (MP)

Below are the major roles of a Member of Parliament in Common Wealth countries like Zambia:

(1). Legislation- MPs debate and pass laws through which the institutions of government endeavor to guide the country’s processes.

(2). Budget Approval/Appropriation-
MPs scrutinize (analyse) and pass (approve) the national Budget every financial year.

(3). Oversight -MPs Monitor and bring to the attention of Ministers and the public, abuse of government funds or related activities, violations of rule of law and unlawful activities.

(4). Representation - MPs represent their constituents’ views in Parliament. They bring to the attention of relevant Ministers different matters of national and public concern.

(5). In the Constituency - Hold consultative meetings with their constituents, update them on the activities of Parliament and Government programmes, as well as gather their views and concerns on issues, which affect their livelihood in order to lobby for developmental programmes and projects for the Constituency.

What MPs do not do:-

(1). MPs do not construct or repair roads and bridges in their constituencies.

(2). They also do not build hospitals, schools or power stations.

(3). Additionally, MPs do not have an obligation to contribute to voters’ weddings and similar activities; or to pay school fees for children or students in their constituencies or even buy diapers for children in the constituency.

NOW WATCH OUT FOR THAT ASPIRING MP WHO IS LYING AND PROMISING HEAVEN ON EARTH 🌎

As a way of promoting the One Zambia, One Nation Moto, we wish the August elections can produce a Lozi Member of Parliament in Luapula, a Bemba MP in North Western Province, a Luvale MP in Muchinga Province, a Tonga MP in Eastern Province, and a Chewa in Southern Province. This would be a true reflection of national unity, inclusiveness, and issue-based politics.
