A beloved classic!

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Eric Carle. The story follows the life cycle of a caterpillar, from egg to butterfly. The caterpillar hatches from an egg, eats its way through various foods (including leaves, fruits, and treats), grows, and eventually transforms into a beautiful butterfly.

*Educational Value:*

This book is not only entertaining but also educational. It introduces young children to:

1. Counting and numbers: The caterpillar eats a specific number of foods each day.
2. Days of the week: The story unfolds over the course of a week.
3. Life cycle of a butterfly: Children learn about the different stages of a butterfly.

Play is learning_: Play is not just a way for children to have fun, but it is also a powerful way for them to learn and develop new skills.

Types of play_: The EYFS identifies three types of play:
1. _Free play_: Child-led play where children make their own choices.
2. _Guided play_: Adult-led play where children are supported and encouraged.
3. _Directed play_: Adult-led play where children are given specific tasks.
