The Ministry of Education yesterday officially released the *2025 Grade 7 and Grade 9 examination results*, highlighting improved learner performance attributed to education policy reforms, the abolition of automatic progression, and sustained government interventions. Following the results, the Ministry has issued the *cut-off points* to guide selection of learners into Form One and Grade 10 day, boarding, and national technical schools across the country.

Today, the Minister of Education, Hon. Douglas Syakalima MP, held a press briefing to announce Grade 7 and 9 examination results
Below are the highlights:
✅️ Attributed the improvement in learner performance to key education policy reforms and sustained Government interventions.
✅️ Noted that the improved outcomes were largely due Government’s decision to abolish automatic progression, allowing only learners with the requisite competencies to advance to secondary school.
✅️ Further credited various interventions and inputs implemented by Government in collaboration with its cooperating partners.
GRADE 7
✅️ Indicated that 47.67% percent of boys sat for the Grade 7 examinations while 52.33% were girls noting ️that , as was the case in 2024, more girls registered for and sat the 2025 examinations.
✅️ Noted that the the absenteeism rate for the 2025 examination decreased by 1.18 percentage points, from 9.44 percent in 2024 to 8.26 percent in 2025.
✅️ Disclosed that a total of 384,592 candidates, representing 71.36 percent, passed the examination by obtaining divisions one to three.
✅️ Of the 384,592 candidates who passed the examination, 201,362 (47.64%) were boys, and 183,230 (52.36%) girls.
✅️However, 154,373 candidates, representing 28.64 percent, failed the examination and, therefore, shall not proceed to form one.
GRADE 9 RESULTS
✅️ out of the 303,674 candidates who entered the examination, 285,634 sat the examination representing an increase of 1.44 percentage points from the 93.16 percent recorded in 2024.
✅️ A total of 18,011 candidates were absent, bringing the 2025 national absenteeism rate to 5.94 percent.
✅️ Of the 285,634 candidates who sat the 2025 junior secondary school leaving examination, 206,357 candidates (72.25%) obtained certificates.
✅️ A total of 18,011 candidates were absent, bringing the 2025 national absenteeism rate to 5.94 percent. this indicated a decrease of 0.90 percentage points from 6.84 percent in 2024.
