Genesis and History

Monica’s Academy,a private school,was founded in 2004 and is co- owned by Pastor Peter Kachingwe Phiri and Mrs. Monica Mulimbwe Phiri.It was built by personal savings of the couple. The objectives for which the Academy was formed are to provide quality Education Services at affordable fees and to also help support orphans and venerable children by way of looking for sponsors

for them to the Academy and other learning institutions and providing them the basic needs of life such as
• food and clothing
• to provide spiritual and moral guidance
• to establish a vocational technical school in order to give skill to all Children(including sponsored orphans, venerable children ) in poultry, electricity, carpentry, brick laying etc.
• To co-ordinate and co-operate with other bodies involved in Educating and working with O.V.C and widows both local and international. Currently the following institutions have been instrumental in sponsoring O.V.C's to the Academy:
-Operation Sunshine (UK)
-National Agenda for Social Advancement (N.A.S.A.D) (Local)
-Divine Care Foundation
-Refugees and Natural Disaster Foundation
-Buntususu Women Empowerment

Monica’s Academy is situated in Lusaka west Villa off Kasupe mission road on the outskirts of Lusaka the capital of the Republic of Zambia and lies in one of the medium class districts of the city. The main (Academy) building was a personal home of Pastor and Mrs. Phiri and was built slowly by building and adding two classrooms per year over a period of 3 years and finally becoming a full Primary and Basic School in 2007
It currently caters for200 pupils with the average size of the classes being 20 pupils. The Academy enrolls advantaged children as well that pay basic fees to cover teachers’ salaries and administration and maintenance expenses, but depends on donations and sponsorship for O.V.C’ s education requisites. Currently there are 9 O.V.C: 5 in grade 2 (2 boys and 3 girls), 2 in grade 3 (boys) and 2 boys: 1 in grade 4 and the other in grade 7. The school offers grade nine national certificate examination and pupils who achieve the grade can enter high school. All teachers are fully qualified and hold their Zambian Teachers Certificate. They take care of the children during their (children) stay at he Academy. The also keep the surrounding, classrooms and offices at the Academy clean.
