Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia Attainment of quality universal Basic Education For ALL The union was formed in 1999, with an initial membership of three hundred (300).

BETUZ is a national union for Primary and Basic Education Appointed Teachers that was formed in 1997 and registered in 1999 under the Industrial and labour Relations Act CAP 269 of the Laws of Zambia, as the Primary Teacher’s Education Union of Zambia (PETUZ). The name was later changed to Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) in 2004, in line with Government policy of transforming all primary schools into Basic Schools

MINE WORKERS UNION LEADERSHIP EMERGES UNOPPOSED

The Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) has successfully held its Elective Quadrennial Conference in Livingstone, under the theme: "Securing the future of work in mining, through Innovations and Solidarity." This is a constitutional gathering graced by the Guest of Honor - Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and social security - Mr. Zachariah Luhanga, who officially opened the proceedings.

In a remarkable show of unity and consensus, all leaders went through unopposed, reaffirming the confidence and trust of the membership in their leadership. The Ministry of Labor formally declared the winners.

This historic conference was witnessed by veterans of unionism and stalwarts of the labor movement, including Hon Fackson Shamenda, Roy Mwaba, Renald Hikaumba, Cosmas Mukuka, Joy Beene, Dr. Henry Sinkala, among many other notable leaders of MUZ, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), international and local dignitaries.

Their presence underscored the enduring strength and solidarity of the labor fraternity.
Congratulations to the elected leaders on the occasion of going through unopposed.

This outcome is not merely a victory, but a solemn call to serve with humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of mine workers in Zambia.

The campaign advocates for adequate financing to education to improve infrastructure, enhance teacher welfare, provide quality teaching and learning resources, and ensure equitable and inclusive education for every learner.

Speaking on behalf of the General Secretary, Dr. Henry Sinkala, the Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Simukonda, reaffirmed BETUZ's enduring commitment to continue advocating for increased funding to the Ministry of Education. Speaking in South Africa last week, he noted that sustained investment in public education is key to strengthening the education system, empowering teachers, and improving learning outcomes across Zambia.

BETUZ DONATES A 65-INCH SMART TV TO MATERO BOYS SECONDARY SCHOOL

The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has donated a 65-inch Smart Television to Matero Boys Secondary School, reaffirming its commitment to supporting quality education and creating better teaching and learning environments.

Presenting the donation on behalf of the General Secretary, Dr. Henry Sinkala, the Director of Organisation and Workers' Education, Mr. Simon Bota reaffirmed BETUZ's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the welfare of teachers while making meaningful investments that enhance the quality of education

He further highlighted the diverse benefits available to BETUZ members, including financial empowerment programs, education support initiatives, insurance solutions, housing opportunities, and other member-focused services that continue to improve teachers' livelihoods.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school administration, the deputy headteacher, Mr Mutale, expressed sincere appreciation for the donation, describing it as a timely contribution that will strengthen classroom instruction, presentations, recreation, and other school digital activities.

This donation reflects BETUZ's continued commitment to supporting education beyond labor representation by investing in initiatives that positively impact learners, teachers, and schools across Zambia.

BETUZ Copperbelt Province Quadrennial Conference Retains Leadership

The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) successfully held its Copperbelt Province Quadrennial Conference, which was presided over by the Provincial Assistant Labour Commissioner for Copperbelt, Mrs Mifimi, reaffirming its commitment to democratic leadership and constitutional governance.

The Conference saw all the leaders retain their positions in the Provincial Executive Committee:

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS FOR
BETUZ NORTH-WESTERN PROVINCE QUADRENNIAL CONFERENCE

The Basic Education Teachers' Union of Zambia (BETUZ) is pleased to officially announce the duly elected Provincial Office Bearers following the successful conclusion of the Western Province Quadrennial Conference. The poll was conducted by the Provincial Assistant Labour Officer Mr. Mwaba.

The following members have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Union in the province for the new term of office:
