IoDZ President urges procurement Professionals to earn their seat at the table

Institute of Directors of Zambia (IoDZ) President Mrs. Miriam Chiyaba has called on procurement professionals to earn their seat at the decision-making table by demonstrating strategic value, ethical leadership, and professional excellence.

She made the remarks during a plenary panel discussion at the 14th Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply - ZIPS Annual Conference held in Livingstone on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

Mrs. Chiyaba was among a panel of industry leaders discussing the topic, “Is the Structure, Human Capacity and Policy Helping in Speed, Procurement and Compliance?”

The session featured contributions from ZIPS President Mr. Daniel Kabamba, Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHR) President Mr. Kelvin Shamijinga, African Supply Chain Confederation (ASCON) President Mr. Ronald Mulalazi, and CIPS Southern Africa Regional Managing Director Mr. Paul Vos.

Speaking from a corporate governance perspective, Mrs. Chiyaba emphasized that procurement professionals must move beyond transactional roles and position themselves as trusted strategic advisors within their organisations. She noted that earning a seat at the table requires a commitment to integrity, competence, accountability and value creation.

The panel explored how organisational structures, human capital development and policy frameworks can either facilitate or hinder efficient procurement processes while maintaining compliance.

Panellists agreed that strengthening professional capacity and governance systems is essential to improving procurement outcomes and supporting organisational performance.

The 14th ZIPS Annual Conference brought together procurement, business professionals from across Zambia to exchange insightsand discuss practical solutions for advancing procurement excellence in an evolving business environment.

IoDZ, ZIPS Sign MoU at 14th Annual Conference in Livingstone

The Institute of Directors of Zambia (IoDZ) and the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) this afternoon, June 17, 2026, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen corporate governance, ethical leadership and procurement standards in Zambia.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 14th ZIPS Annual Conference in Livingstone by IoDZ Executive Director Ms. Nchimunya Michelo Silenga and ZIPS President Mr. Daniel Kabamba.

The partnership will promote collaboration in professional development, knowledge sharing, ethical leadership and capacity building aimed at enhancing corporate governance and procurement practices across both the public and private sectors.

Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at State House, Mr. Wisdom Bwalya, represented Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Patrick Kangwa and witnessed the signing ceremony as Guest of Honour. The event was attended by procurement professionals from across the country.

The MoU underscores the shared commitment of IoDZ and ZIPS to raising professional standards, strengthening institutions and promoting accountability in support of Zambia's national development agenda.
