đ Data is the backbone of accountable peace and security.
Last week in Dar es Salaam, the ICGLR Secretariat, with the support of BMZ and GIZ under the iWPS project, successfully concluded a 3-day technical workshop in collaboration with the ICGLR Gender Directorate and LMRC, to strengthen the reporting and communication abilities of the ICGLR Member States Gender Focal Points for the ICGLR Regional Action Plan (RAP II) on Women, Peace, and Security with the use of M&E tools, including the Gender Barometer.
As a specialized regional think tank for the ICGLR, Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre (LMRC) provides high-quality research and analytical tools necessary to inform and measure policy across the ICGLR Member States. This workshop reflected the LMRCâs mandate to equip Member States with the right tools as they are at the front line of driving meaningful change.
To progress the WPS agenda in the region, we need accurate, local data that feeds into regional security architectures. By strengthening the capacities of ICGLR Member States' Gender Focal Points to share valuable local insights, the ICGLR Secretariat and partners will translate regional commitments into measurable progress by 2030.
This initiative was made possible through GIZâs project "Incorporating Local Perspectives in the Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Great Lakes Region," funded by the Bundesministerium fĂźr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)
Together, the ICGLR Secretariat, GIZ, and CSOs are ensuring that the Great Lakes security landscape is backed by evidence, inclusion, and the decisive leadership of women.
