Lo and behold! The STANDARD MODEL OF ELEMENTARY PARTICLES!
The standard model typically belongs to the particle physics domain and does not have real life implementation till now, however it helps scientists and researchers get closer understanding of the universe in the best possible manner to date. The six quarks, six leptons, the Higgs boson and four force carrying particles serve as the 17 building blocks responsible for the formation of almost all objects existing in nature.
QUARKS are responsible for the formation of protons and neutrons.
LEPTONS are responsible for formation of the negatively charged electron and they can be classified into two types, Electrons and neutrinos. These neutrinos have no charge and are generally smaller in mass relative to other particles
BOSONS are responsible for the existence of the four fundamental forces in nature, βthe gravitational force, the strong force, the weak force and the electromagnetic force β (next post will be on these fundamental forces)
The bosons are further classified into the Higgs boson and four other force carrying particles. The Higgs boson describes mass property of matter because it is associated with the Higgs field, the Higgs field gives mass to other fundamental particles as they interact within the field. (The mass of a particular particle tends to increase with an increase in the interaction between the particles and the Higgs boson)

We may have learnt that electrons, protons and neutrons are the fundamental particles but there's more to it than that. Quite alright electrons are fundamental particles but neutrons and protons are further made up of other particles called quarks. Cut the story short,
THERE ARE 17 FUNDAMENTAL PARTICLES WHICH ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 CATEGORIES.
1. QUARKS
2. LEPTONS
3. BOSONS
Quarks and Leptons are responsible for every mass in the universe thus they make up matter. Bosons on the other hand are responsible for various forces that act on matter in nature, you may call themβforce carrying particles β
