Children learning a new language!
Children are very excited to learn new things. One of which is Learning a new language. They ve to learn their survival depends on it, they ve no other option. They will use whatever tools is available such as their mother, father, siblings, video games and whoever is around them. Have you noticed if you stay quite for a long time without a word babies cry, because they want to hear your voice. They are very curious as a result their ask a lot of questions such as : "Where did I come from? Why do we ve to sleep? Why do we ve to eat?" Fun questions isn't? However, that is the way they learn. Unknown to you they are learning your language and new things. Before you know it they are speaking your language. That is why if you have to teach a child perhaps three languages, you can do it at an early age.
Adults are excited to learn new language as well. However, when the going gets tough they easily give up. Of course some persevere and successed. Our success rate cannot be compared to that of Children. What could be the problem?
The following are some challenges:
1. Adults ve options - our minds are accustomed to do easy task, so when the going gets tough we easily go back to doing the things we are used to. For instance if you are learning a new language like Chinese mandarin and things gets hard we easily go back to the language we are use to. Children don't have that option as discussed earlier. What is the solution? Before we answer let us look at this example. A army general attacked an Island with his troops, when they got out of the ships he destroyed the ships. He has just destroyed the option of his soldiers thinking If the going got tough, they had a option of getting to the ships and taking off. The result soldiers fought for their survival. Therefore, they were victors. You need to ve such a mindset of a child or a soldiers we ve just talked about when you are learning a new language.
2. Time and Resources - You need to invest time and resources in order to learn a new language. I ve discussed on this platform what kind of resources one needs. Please feel free to look them up.Some languages will take you 6 months to 2 years . However, you may need 5 years for you to start getting good returns on your investment.
3. Subject of indignities - You will be subjected to a lot of indignities by family and friends. They will question what are you doing and if it is really worthwhile. A lot will give up as a result. However, Great men where subjected to indignities but they did not give in. Steve Job was fired from the company he started but in the end he was returned and successed. Therefore, do not be intimidated by those who do not support your goals. Be determined to follow your path. I wish you all the best!
