🎓 Breaking Barriers: Enala Makes History as the First Family Legacy Student with Special Needs to Complete Secondary School

Enala is a 19-year-old double orphan who recently defied the odds of hearing and partial eyesight challenges to complete her secondary education at St. Mulumba Special School. With this achievement, Enala is the first Family Legacy-sponsored student with special needs to successfully complete secondary school.

A double orphan by the age of 12, Enala and her 3 brothers were taken in by an aunt who, although struggling herself, still took in her niece and nephews. In 2015, God opened a door for Enala to attend Camp Life. The following year, she was selected to start school at Misisi Legacy Academy and later at St Mulumba Special School in Choma. Her academic journey was not easy, but through it all, Enala has demonstrated great commitment, determination, and perseverance.

Family Legacy’s Special Needs Programme was launched in 2018 to provide tailored education and therapeutic support to children with disabilities who could not receive appropriate care at Family Legacy schools.

Inspired by her own experience, Enala’s dream is to go to college. She wants to be a Special Education teacher so she can also help children with special needs. “God has been so gracious to me; I have completed school because of His mercy, so I also want to help someone one day,” she said. “I want to extend my gratitude to all my teachers at St. Mulumba for their patience, love, and support,” she added.

Enala has obtained a school certificate and is awaiting sponsorship to achieve her dreams. Family Legacy Missions Zambia Family Legacy @

Supporting Children Beyond Family Legacy Schools

As we end this week of spotlighting our Social Services team, we turn to students outside of Family Legacy schools. Family Legacy currently supports over 2,100 students across 85 government schools in and beyond Lusaka. It’s a big responsibility, one that calls for strong data management, commitment, and genuine care.

Our goal is to ensure that every child continues to receive the same support as those in Family Legacy schools. This includes access to books, meal packs, uniforms, spiritual development, and one-on-one counselling, because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Our Social Services team also travels beyond Lusaka to visit students in boarding schools, monitor their well-being, and address their needs. These visits not only support the children but also strengthen relationships with the schools we partner with.

“Monitoring attendance, even for those in government schools, helps me identify students who have missed school and understand why. It allows me to visit them and offer support where I can, and that brings me fulfilment,” shares Leah Chiyangi, a social worker.

Sarah Chiluba adds, “Through home visits, we’ve identified children with chronic illnesses and referred them for medical care. The work we do continues to transform lives and has deepened my passion for community development, child protection, and safeguarding.”

Behind every visit, every follow-up, and every intervention is Family Legacy’s team of social workers, committed to changing lives, one child at a time.
