Today, the Minister of Education Hon Douglas Siakalima MP held a press briefing:
Below are the highlights:
Due to the increase in the Cholera cases and subsequent deaths, the National Disaster and Mitigation Council of Ministers held a meeting and decided that:
✅ All public, private and community learning institutions from early childhood, primary and secondary schools remain closed for a further three (3) weeks after the official opening date of 8th January, 2024
✅ In this regard, schools will reopen on Monday 29th January, 2024.
✅ Further, the grace period which was given to grade 8 and 10 learners has been overtaken. All learners are expected to be back to school on 29th January, 2024.
✅ In order to catch up on the lost time, the first term holidays will only run for one (1) week instead of four (4) weeks. This implies that schools will close for term 1 on the 20th of April, 2024 instead of 5th April, 2024
✅ During the prolonged closure all learning institutions should be cleaned up and maintain high levels of hygiene.
