At Muddy Puddles, “quiet” isn’t the goal.

What you will hear is laughter, chatter, hands squishing play dough, feet running outside, and kids learning through every messy, loud, beautiful moment.

This is what real childhood sounds like. And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way 💛

At Muddy Puddles, we let little hands get busy and it’s on purpose! 🖐️🌿

This is what learning looks like at our school. No screens, no rush. Just a toddler, some play dough, and big things happening behind the scenes.

Why we make time for kneading and messy play every day:

1. Strong hands for school readiness
Pushing, rolling, and squeezing play dough builds the small muscles kids need for writing, cutting, and self-care. We’re training future writers before they even pick up a pencil.

2. Focus + calm minds
The repetitive motion of kneading helps little ones self-regulate. It’s our 5-minute reset when energy gets high. Parents tell us their kids come home calmer too.

3. Sensory learning that sticks
Feeling different textures helps kids understand their world. It’s how toddlers learn about cause and effect, shapes, and problem-solving all through play.

4. Confidence to create
There’s no “wrong” way to play with play dough. When kids create freely, they build confidence to try, fail, and try again. That mindset follows them into every classroom activity.

This is intentional parenting + intentional teaching
At Muddy Puddles, we balance fun with purpose. Every messy moment is a step toward stronger bodies, calmer minds, and ready learners.

Play builds brains.

Not worksheets. Not apps.
PLAY.

Building → Problem-solving
Drawing → Focus
Pretend → Language + Confidence
Outdoor → Emotional regulation

Each minute of play = new neural connections 🧠

That’s why we prioritize play over screens at Muddy Puddles Childcare & School

STOP BUYING THESE 5 “BABY HELPERS”😳

They’re sold as shortcuts to milestones. But they often steal the very skills they promise to build.

Parents buy them with love. Kids pay for them with delays.

Here’s what to watch out for:

1. BABY WALKERS
Why we buy it: “To help baby walk faster”
The hidden harm:Baby toe-walks before hips and core are ready. Skips crawling the stage that builds brain coordination, depth perception, and shoulder strength for writing later. Linked to tip-toe walking and higher injury rates. Banned in Canada for safety reasons.
Truth: Kids learn to walk from floor time, not wheels. If they can’t get there alone, their body isn’t ready.
Do this instead:Barefoot tummy time + push-toys they walk behind.

2. SIPPY CUPS WITH HARD SPOUTS/VALVES
Why we buy it:“No spills. Teaches cup drinking”
The hidden harm: Baby sucks like a bottle. That tongue-thrust pattern should stop by 12 months. Long-term use can push teeth forward, narrow the palate, and delay speech sounds like ‘t, d, n, l’.
Truth: You’re teaching bottle-drinking from a cup.
Do this instead: Open cup from 6 months with help, or straw cup. Mess teaches skill.

3. “EDUCATIONAL” TV/TABLET APPS FOR UNDER-5s
Why we buy it:“ABC app will make my baby smart early”
The hidden harm:Under 5, brains learn from back and forth with humans, not screens. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen time before 18-24 months except video chat. Apps steal the 1000+ words/day babies need to hear from you. Fast scenes train brains to crave novelty killing focus.
Truth:Every hour of screen time is an hour NOT spent exploring, touching, or hearing you name things.
Do this instead: Talk, sing, point at real objects. Boring is brain-building.

4. SEATS THAT PROP BABIES UPRIGHT
Why we buy it: “Helps baby sit before they’re ready so we can play”
The hidden harm:If baby can’t sit alone, core muscles aren’t strong yet. Forcing upright rounds the spine and weakens core. Leads to W-sitting, tight hips, and poor balance later.
Truth:Milestones aren’t a race. Posture is earned, not propped.
Do this instead: Floor time on tummy and back. They’ll sit when their core says so.

5. PUREE POUCHES FOR EVERY MEAL
Why we buy it:“Clean, fortified, convenient nutrition”
The hidden harm: Sucking smooth puree past 18 months means the mouth never practices biting, chewing, and moving food side-to-side. Those movements build jaw strength and tongue coordination for speech. Therapists call it “pouch mouth” kids who gag on lumps and struggle with ‘k, g’ sounds at age 3.
Truth: Food isn’t just fuel. It’s speech therapy and motor skill practice.
Do this instead: By 8-9 months: offer soft finger foods like banana, avocado, steamed carrot. Mess = mouth muscle gym.

THE PATTERN:
We buy these to speed up childhood or clean up childhood.
But struggle IS the growth. Crawling is messy. Cup drinking spills. Chewing gags.

When we remove the struggle, we remove the skill.

RULE OF THUMB BEFORE YOU BUY:
“What skill is this replacing? Does my child need practice, not replacement?”_
