Story for September 9th…
“MASAITI BOARDING SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TAKE LEARNERS BY SURPRISE

Today learners who had reported yesterday after a long holiday were taken by surprise by teachers who decided to clean the school whilst they were having their first meal in school this term with others catching up.

It is believed that the second day of the term is marked for maintenance so some learners purposefully report late or stay in their hostels waiting to be chased around and told to clean the school.

Surprisingly, instead of the usual routine, teachers after being assigned to supervise the cleaning of the school decided to clean the school themselves and allow the children to rest especially that some had traveled from as far as, Solwezi, Kalumbila and Lusaka to Masaiti Boma.

Learners were idling around after their heavy breakfast with thoughts of never stepping on the campus area. It appears it was this time when word went out that teachers were cleaning the school. Learners were taken by surprise!

Out of shame, one by one learners started flocking on the campus area. The sight was nothing you have seen. Heads of Departments were with brooms, teachers alike. Female teachers were moving with wheelbarrows ferrying the leaves and liter glued to their old school time stories.

Learners were walking with sagged faces and one by one they substituted the teachers. It was overwhelming. Teaching is not forceful. Teaching is effective in a willing environment. Allow children to see sometimes, demonstrate when necessary.

I doubt Masaiti will see a day like this again!
This lesson will live for generations.
